In my view, I don't think growth will move Downwards,Only when organization starts experimentation and try new ways to penetrate market, Sometimes there is a downward movement. After all every time you cannot fetch profit.

I think much can be gained by simple user satisfaction surveys. i.e. users rating a system before and after a major redevelopment.

I think it depends on your ultimate goals. For many growth is critical, for others not so much. One part can be that it depends on how the growth is achieved.
