It doesn't take much time for a game to change. I strongly believe that Honda will take over HERO in th long run. HONDA is cunning enough to cater Indian market....& it will when time comes.

Although, Hero Honda Brand will exist till 2014, but is it possible for HERO to maintain its whooping 60% market share without HONDA's name. I believe they can maintain their Market leadership but definitely there share will fall down by substantial percentage. On the other hand HONDA will come up with aggressive marketing policy with its high tech bikes whereas as hero could suffer a major technological setbacks in case of Superbikes. Hero have already declared that Splendor, Passion & CBZ will be its base models from their stable but looking to current market these three alone will not be capable to gain that competitive edge for HERO. A vast network of 4500 dealers & service stations is definitely an advantage for HERO to keep its customer loving the brand HERO specially, in this case rural Indian can also play a Trump card for HERO.

HERO survived in automotive industry only because of HONDA's technological support. Honda, with is solid base in Indian market will easily compete with other automotive giants. on the other hand, HERO is destined to lose its leadership tag(unless they take any measures to stay at the top, which is still difficult)

before the collaboration took place, people were knowing Hero in India very well(leading Cycle manufacturer), but after so many years now the situation is vice versa, people know Honda well as good quality 2 - 4 wheeler manufacturer, but Hero is same the cycle manufacturer....In my opinion Hero will die soon after the separation,
