3 Idiots movie has seen so much success such that now the famous ‘Aal izz well’ will soon make it’s entry in management lessons. Ahmedabad Management Association has organised a management session ‘Passion leads to excellence: Management Lessons from 3 Idiots’ based on the film on January 20. Management trainer Dr Shailesh Thaker who is going to take the session has already prepared a one-hour presentation on the topic.

"3 Idiots" teaches us many lessons, it is relevant for parents, children, professionals and the younger generation. The film is full of teaching and learning material.

Here are some of the points that one can re-collect by many who have watched the movie.....

Never try to be successful, excellence always creates success

Live every moment to the fullest

Passion leads to excellence

Current education system causes pressures among students

Necessity is the mother of invention

Importance of a word in communication

But the important question here is like, will this kind of new ways of teaching gain importance? I mean taking movies to classes and understanding it from a different lens altogether....

I think this will work, though I am not a big fan of Bollywood, but then Bollywood is not about just masala entertaining flicks but a few films also depict lessons for life. Some of them are great inspiration for us and also act as an unflattering mirror to our ever-changing society. Like "3 Idiots", which contains great lessons for life as well as management.

And also using films makes a huge impact as the acceptance of concept between adults becomes easy. As it is rightly said, one picture is equal to a thousand words.

The whole idea of education is to make the student competent enough to handle the complexities and adversities of their lives effectively. This is not the issue how this education is given. The issue is that the learning is made so effective that it remains in their minds. New experiments are continuously being done in education sector for ages to convert education into a life long learning. Moreover, application-based learning is always advocated for that will leave an imprint in the mind of participants to last longer.

What is the harm if someone has chosen the medium of cinema to convey a message, which is more efficient and deeply penetrating?

Not only 3 Idiots, there are many other movies in Indian Hindi cinema alone (I am not naming any regional cinema due to my limited awareness about it) like - Chak De India!, Lagaan, Lakshya, Munnabhai MBBS, Swades, a recent flick -Rocket Singh, and even our age-old Mahabharatha, which are full of instances that can be used to teach management principles effectively for one simple reason that the influence of cinema is much on the Indian society. You just need to change your perspective while watching a movie and you could take home one message or two from almost any movie.

Why not? The best way to learn has undoubtedly been through experiences, and the role of audio-video as well as story-telling has never been overlooked in the process of experiential learning. For a long time cinema has given good and bad lessons to the society. It is unfortunate that the significance of cinema as an effective tool for learning had not been recognized yet. Though a couple of experiments about 'learning through movies' had been made of late at smaller levels, but the fact of the matter is that it has to be a Harvard or an IIM to make a management concept worth adoption.

if we are to be reliant on theatres for imparting "values system" and "cultivating attitude " ,then why do we have schoold as separate entity that is meant for imparting these skills .i'm not against usage of source for conveying a useful message but it highly lacks practical appraoch .it has been a matter of debate in recent time that  "Is the  entertainment can be  a mean of education" .there is no harm in coming up with fresh ideas .but  entertainment and education ,serves to entirely different purposes.if we happen to encourage the practice based traing then, let the student carry out there rogue  experiment with things ,let break a pld radio and understand its functioning , mobile phones or other such gadgets .inculde labs as a active component in learning .this way learning can be made much interesting or i say inducing for students .LET THEM BREAK THINGS TO MAKE THINGS .

Isn't it a irony? Were we waiting for a movie to pave us the way for learning basic & fundamentals traits like pursuing excellence, or necessity is the mother of inventions, or follow your passions?

I suppose, it'd have been much better to bring education reforms at the time we started to reform our economy.

The message what the movie has delivered is very loud, clear & very obvious. I think theory time is over & its time to do some practical.

Thanks for the referral M'am.
