It is said that about 50 foreign universities, including Duke University from the US, have shown interest in setting up campuses in India as the government is all set to introduce a bill to allow entry of such institutions, most of them are  from the US, the UK and Australia, who have approached the HRD Ministry regarding this.  Duke university which is a renowned private university in the US, offers courses in various streams and research studies.

Even the HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has said that non-profit making institutions would be allowed to set up campuses in the country. The Foreign Education Providers Bill is before the Cabinet right now. If this bill is passed then many of Indian insitutions will take a back seat as people tend to go for new things most of the times. And till now Indian institutions and universities have produced tremendous talents who have done really well across all spheres.

Will these Foreign Universities entry pose  threat to Indian Universities?

No way this would be a threat. This will ensure the quality test of all mushroomed institutions who considers education as a business. On the other hand, existing old players will also be forced to strive for better innovative solutions and conducive atmosphere for survival.

This is a good initiative. We admit that it will be a threat to other universities but it is good to have compatition. This will erge the other Universities to prove their standars.

According to me yes this will pose a threat to Indian Universities, as most of the Universities which are entering are top of the notch from US,UK and Australia, and these Universities allows students to take up research in their preferred field and will allow them to reach their full potential, which is not possible in many of the Indian Universities, and that is why we are seeing most of the students who go abroad for their higher studies, and now with Foreign universities entering India, most of the students will go for these Universities than Indian, nothing against Indian Universities, but students reach their best when they are given adequate tools and Foreign universities just provide those tools.

Whenever any sector of the economy is opened up there is a sense of insecurity that the foreign / MNC companies are going to become a threat to domestic companies. But it has not really happened. Our companies have withstood the competition well. Rather it's the foreign companies in some case (e.g. auto industry) that had to eat the humble pie. So why should we be overly worried about foreign universities posing a threat to local universities. More than a threat it could be a challenge to the local universities.

They can never be a threat to any of the Indian universities they will just boost the quality of education in India. We still have a large number of students just dropping because they don't get admission to a good college or they can't qualify for the course they are willing to opt.

the induction of foreign university in india can bring about  a revolution in the field of education. As management guru Mr.Prahlad has said the growth in any industry is driven by excitement and enthusiasm ,this sort of govt. act if passed ,would bring about a positive change in the perception of indians towards education.People will flock in for higher eduction as there is a large pool of indian youth who dont get admission into university for there are very few seats in the avalable courses.Like for example there are 29seats in medical course at shimla university.According to me the entry of foreign university is a  trementous opportunity  that is knocking at our door and we should rather grab it.I feel that we will grow exonentially going forward if this opening of foreign university gets through.
