Ok, a 100 kmpl car. I want to see it run. Even Automotive XPrize cars find that sort of mileage difficult to achieve. You have to know how that amazing mileage figure is achieved. That sort of hybrids are called EREV(Extended Range Electric Vehicle) or in common terms Plug-in Hybrid. These hybrids are basically electric car with a range extender to charge the battery. The range extender here is a gasoline powered generator. The car is close to Audi A6 in size. This particular car will go about 40 miles(60 kms) without switching on the engine if you charge it at home(the power from the outlet is far cheaper). This is considering that most people dont go more than 8 miles one way to their office. Once the charge in the battery is over the engine comes on, charges the battery and goes off. Because of this you dont use the engine every day you may not burn a drop of petrol for days/months. It is expected to reduce fuel consumption over the lifeterm by 90%. On highways the car is expected to give about 16 kmpl. So the 230MPG is a understatement, for its lifetime savings. It can possibly do a 90mph(140 kmph). Finally this car was developed by GM in house in US. I have followed most stages of the development including choosing the batteries to drive train and stuff. This was the outcome of GM waking one day and finally accepting that Hybrids work(Audi is still to do that, hopefully they do it before going bankrupt). They basically used the expertise they developed with their EV1 electric car which was sold from 1996-1999, for $25k a piece. Opel has nothing to do with this, though GM also developed an Opel version of the car, which was cancelled as part of the Bailout plan. Lastly the car they were talking about was showcased in the Auto Expo '10. It was lying around quietly in one corner with no one looking at it.

KMPL IS DIFFERENT TRANSPORT EFFICIENCY = TON-KMPL 100 KMPH/ 1 L = 100 KMPL 200 KMPH/2 L = 100 KMPL 10 KMPH/ 0.1 L = 100 KMPL

I HAVE DESIGN FOR 60 KMPL 2 T CAR RUNNING AT 200 KMPH NORMALLY WITH 100 HP/ 600 CC ENGINE USING 3.33 L/Hr FUEL ANDY DESIGN HP = WEIGHT* SPEED / VDF TRANSPORT EFFICIENCY=TON-KMPL AND NOT KMPL 2 T CAR 100 HP GETS 10 KMPL RUN AT100 KMPH 1 T CAR 100 HP GETS 20 KMPL RUN AT 200 KMPH

Let it be gimmic. When TATA's announced that they will introduce Rs. 1 Lac car everybody told that it is not possible. BUt now we are seeing the Rs 1 lac cars on road. Including taxes It cost 1.3 -1.4 lacs still cheapest. When TATA's claimed about it at that time TATA's where only known in INDIA for its automobile presence. If GM is claiming that they are going to manufacture 100 KMPL car than what's wrong. It may be possible that pick up will not be so great. inplace of 100 LMPL it will somewhere around 60 to 70 KMPL but still its a good bet. If they bluffed about this then also they will try to convert it in reality. let's help them out with our positive note that we trust U guys. GO AHEAD WITH YOUR PROJECT.

Why not? When we get value for money? Compare with high end cars available in India now.. mileage is only 4-8 km/ltr. If GM can provide same comfort and such a great mileage, people will definitely buy the car. From the images of this car, it looks very elegant.

World Over GM is known for churning out Guzzlers. They were least bothered since they have standard market in regions/Depts where oil is not a issue. They havent grown up to be in step with issues of our times as far as their business is concerned. Its just i think the last gimmick before sinking at 1oo mpl speed!!!

In my opinion itss a definite gimmick, untill unless some road tests are made in reality. 100 kmpl , with hybrid technology will and should make up a car weight with passengers inside and city braking and pull conditions ..... i would definitely drop my jaw if they come with it on to the road and make it reliable though with required Nm, and effeciency in different modes of driving conditions. Well i expect when they ask me 20 lakhs for it ... or i can buy a 4 lakh car with low emissions(DPF and after treatment fixtures and so on) and live with it for another 15 yrs by buying the same fuel for another 16 lakhs... Illuminate me if this is a trade off ... i feel so..

Looking at the city conditions anywhere in India we are pathetic! Mumbai is so filled with vehicles that at a glance on road, there are more cars than people!! Delhi is congested, Kolkata is also very congested what with flyovers being constructed and Chennai is good in parts only. Pune, Nashik, Indore, Ahmedabad, Baroda , Surat, you name the place even Bengaluru is extremely congested!! In certain towns the road conditions are pathetic too!! 100kmpl cars will run smoothly on F1 kind of race tracks only which are never available here!! What is GM trying to prove?? NANO is a different story. Tata is a solid dependable company and coming out with a dream car like NANO is the next best thing that has happened to India after the tax announcements today!! :)) Adding new statements: 100kmpl is an average that GM promises in IDYLLIC conditions!! What are these?? Have they specified in what conditions the car will give such an average?? I pity the petroleum companies completely if this is really true!!

I think it is a bit of gimmick and a eye popping thing that they are doing, the same thing that the TATA Nano people did, but then TATA motors delivered what supposed to be the worlds cheapest car and GM are coming with a Higher mileage, but then i don't think 100 kmpl is possible and even if they come out with something like that the price of it is very high and in difficult times like these it is difficult for one to go for such hybrid cars, i don't see a majority of people going for such cars which can revive GM's fortune for that matter.
