Is there any data to be collected. Sending sms to multiple (any number) of users is as easy as typing text. u get spam from marketers all the time dont u. Just a matter of tying up with a service provider. and its really cheap too.

It is a brilliant idea and should be supported and explored further by all state govts. With technology anything is possible. In fact the server at the respective EB offices can be configured to send out automatic sms to all those registered with the EB as and when a power cut is scheduled. This way the human interface can also be avoided and one can be sure that all sms would go on time and on the scheduled date of the powercut. It is only a simple marriage of governance with technology ! But then is it that simple in our country ??

It is an idea that could have been implemented a few years before as well. With one of highest mobile users in the world, bulk sms facility and mobile nos. of most customers available with the power utility, it is just a matter of few work hours of the utility's back-end team to implement it. And as per user convenience it could be day saver for many consumers.

I have seen many comment showing concern of collecting the data. See in most of the region there is only one power distribution company. So collect the data from the mobile company for that perticular circle / region and send the mass SMS. In the above approach some people may get the SMS, which may not be pertain to him. So he / she will delete it, like we keep on deleting messages whole day. So nothing to worry on this. JUST DO IT.

This is indeed a good idea But this is just a alternative to adjust with the problem and not the solution to the problem When will INDIA come out of power cutting phase??

This task very sensitive. Collecting data and sending SMS to each and every person is not a easy task as Mr. Vidhu Ji said, "Most of time powercuts are unplanned" as well as customer are keep changing their mobile no. Thus database under this task is near to impossible.

Till such time, we reach self-sufficiency in Power production. We need to find out a convenient way to work on our schedules without disturbances. Particularly, for an office-goers, it will help plan his activities in Office / Home. For a Scheduled power-cut , we do not need any notice . Because it is fixed time on regular basis. But, abrupt or unlikely event when they are to go for power-cut, it will be much appreciated by all concerned. All, including production, construction & operation guys can plan accordingly their duties. It avoids lot of down-time in industrial sector. Essential acivities can be planned to satisfy the customers accordingly. Also, it gives enough opportunity for people to activate either their generator or solar for ready for the black-out.

This is a very good solution. However collecting the data will be a big task. Instead they can create a site to enroll and provide information to send SMS w.r.t area they are residing. This way even if the person changes his address, he has option to change the details himself. This model helps people to plan their activities in advance and is a very good solution.

ofcourse this can be a hit.. Must say futuristic one, just collect data of those who have their pan-cards or from rationcard department or from anyother sources. Then govt have to tieup with service providers like airtel, voda, mtnl etc and assign job resonsiblitites to them. Alternative solution also exists, Just issue a form for those who want to activate sms service from electricity department. They just have to fill a one time form for sms activation service and then follow the same procedures as most of the banks are following these days. Benefits :: users can get information abt their bills and other updates too

THIS IDEA WILL DEFINITELY WORK BECAUSE MOST OF THE HOMES HAVE NO UPS CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTERS AND THIS IDEA WILL HELP A USER TO SAVE DATA BEFORE BLACKOUT. EXCELLENT IDEA!!! NEVER BEFORE...

The idea is misleading - power-cut/load shedding are planned which are any way informed to public through news paper but what about sudden load shedding caused due to faults. Can the man in the electricity board envisage it? and therefore madamji, the idea is a no-idea.

1.This may possible to miss use.2.Without any pre warning/information may confuse.3.Panic for non related.4.Only specific members who have mobile device can inform, general public will be not informed.5.For general information it is same proceedure is required.

I agree with u sujatha because data collection is a problem with another problem of timing of power cut, because in india sometime power goes by failure rather than power cut. No body knows which time it would be fail, it depends on many reasons. So how it is possible to sms when power will be fail. Thanks for raising the idea.

Sujatha, Thanks 4 invite This is for a planned Power Outages. But what about catastrophic failure which is more in No. than the planned Power outages in Tier1 , Tier2 Cities especially in the Rainy days? When Power Supplier/Distributor Co. itself is not knowing the reason then what will be next? So I completely agree with Sujatha it will not be that success though.

I dont think its a very useful thing. We all know we will have the power cuts & over a period of a couple of days we would already know the pattern so an sms is really of no consequence. I would go with Manish's wish here :) Pray No Power Cuts please :)
