YES ALL OF US KNOW THAT THE POVERTY LEVEL IS INDIA IS MORE THA 70% AND INCREASING . BUT OUR FRIENDLY GOVT WILL BET IT IS 20% AND REDUCING . WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BIGGEST DEMOCRATIC POPULATION AND THIS IS WHAT OUR GOVTS ELECTED DO FOR US . SAD.

As per Planning Commission’s estimates, the poverty ratio has been pegged at 29.8 per cent in 2009-10, down from 37.2 per cent in 2004-05. These are based on the daily per capita consumption of Rs 28.65 in urban cities and Rs 22.42 in rural areas. The Commission had released poverty data, based on the 66th round of the National Sample Survey (2009-10) figures on household consumer expenditure survey. The national accounts, which provide data for national income, is prepared by the Central Statistical Organization (CSO). Proceedings of the Parliament were stalled when the members from the opposition benches raised objections on the figures. They argue that the figures are failing to reflect the true picture of the ground reality. Whereas the Congress argues that, "It is unfortunate that the Opposition is raising objections. The poverty figures have repeatedly gone down. It was 45.3% in 1993-94, and came down to 37.2% in 2004. We should be happy about the drop in numbers. It shows that government schemes targeting poor and BPL are showing good results." “India is Shining” was the slogan of BJP during 2004 General Elections, we know the ultimate result. Now the Congress (UPA) is trying the same differently. Those who try to fight the battle leaving the ground will tend to fall. This is the reality.
