Advertising has grown to be an industry worth many billions of dollars across the world. Almost all public space has some advertisements in sight and all forms of media, from newspapers to the internet, are also filled with adverts. Whilst this helps companies sell their produces, and helps consumers to learn what is on offer, many believe that this huge amount of advertising can be harmful

The levels of advertising are just too much these days. You cannot walk down the street, ride on a bus, watch television or read your email without seeing advertisements. People shouldn't have to have their lives attacked by a huge quantity of information they might not want.

Advertising is information conveyed in a rather flashy manner. A story told in 20 or 30 seconds. A message displayed to convey presence. It's not the amount of advertising that is harmful. Harmful is the perception and later conviction of it being nothing but the truth. Harmful to the young, but not the mature mind. One need not get paranoid about it, but treat it like another feature on the landscape. Advertisements can be amusing, informative and fun. One gets to know of new products, places, services and also updates, discounts, etc.

Yes! they are an unnecessary and not-needed expenses for your tight budget. I am shocked to see an advertisement of a deo-spray for the hair... and it is selling like hot cakes and morons are buying it as well. It makes me laugh out loud rolling on the floor, what a dirty effect of on the minds of the people this channels have created with advertisements of cars, deo-sprays, merchandize, chips, et cetera, I don't see any meaningful advertisements these days. All are selling something or the other. They are up there for a grab so, grab it... :PPP

well, i do agree because in some extend people choice is being controlled by the advertisement. Why? it is simple, the nature of advertisement is so persuasive even they dare to say "you will regret if you don't by us". not to mention, ads provider will make their ads in a way that will be able to attract customer. And  it is certain that there is a case where it is very unsatisfactory for the customer finding the product is "lower" than the ads.

Even if it also contains information, can you make sure that the information is perfectly the same with the "real" product. Sometime people see advertisement like a lottery, whether or not they will have as what they have expected. Moreover try to see America , where folks are controlled by the media. Media or ads sometime spreads a fear like, the dangerous of obesity that can cause heart attack even death. The goal is to make people want to purchase their product that is "tentatively" believed to be able to reduce obesity. so in some extend, yes, the amount of advertisement and its contain brings harm

Yes i too agree with you Manasee...and its disturbing these days with so many advertisements being bombarded towards the customer...indeed they are spoilt for choice...and end up buying something else...there are so many products and all off them like target the same userbase and this is happening in case of telecom providers...where with so many of them the space is getting very narrower there day by day..as one can see in in TV most of the ads belongs to Mobile phones or telecom providers...and the same thing is happening in most of the cases...

The huge quantity of information  is made available to people so that people are aware of the developments and the development  of technology along with offers given by various companies .Moreover it is up-to us if we want to take into consideration the information that is given to us.We can ignore adverts if we dont  choose to .

Not at all, ad is not harm, yes if it will clutter beyond the limit then it will. But i think now many ad campaign are coming with innovative thingd as scenario is changed. At the end both side people you will find that people see the ad and people avoid the ad. Today's ad - media industry becoming change and interestable ad campaign are coming like idea cellular, cadbury dairy milk, nirma washing powder, vodafone, tata docomo, lg 3d tv, nokia etc...

Not only do advertisements inform us and update us on product launches, upgrades and trends, they are also a source of creative entertainment. Who can forget the Amul and Fevicol advertisements. It will bring a smile to our faces even years after we have seen them.

And let us not forget: Advertisements help TV and radio channels, and publications by providing a source of revenue thereby keeping content free or subsidised. Additionally, they provide a visual element to publications and act as fillers or breaks during TV shows.

Why is advertising too much? OR When is advertising too much?? It never is!

Ads always offer you information on 'whats new?' keeping you updated on any new feature of your favorite food, car, TV, et al! Why would information be harmful? Like Aditya has rightly said, maturity in using the information thats being displayed in front of you will make you more aware!1 So look at it as form of infotainment and learn from it in the form of edutainment!

i completely agree with Mr. Aditya here...its more about info of the product in 10-20 seconds of Ad just to make sure the product..theme and the quality of the product is shown in that alloted time...so it has more useful information for the consumer...
