First of all, Oracle DBA works with the maintanance of database and SAP Consultant works with the maintanance of SAP which is an ERP.Oracle DB maintanance activities takes part in the daily work of SAP Basis Consultant.In broader aspect SAP works with other technology such as Enterprise Portal, XI which are java based.Hence, if we consider a switch from Oracle DBA to SAP, then it is must be needed to accuire the SAP Skill. In one word, SAP Basis is the integration of SAP, DATABASE, OS technologies.Hence, SAP Basis is the hottest technologies  as it is the integration of all system administration task.

I think with a great expereince as Oracle DBA , one should therefore look for opportunities in Oracle Apps and not SAP.This would be a better decision in the long run.

SAP is in demand now. With A good experience in Oracle and the  considering a switch, it makes sense to seriously look at SAP.
However domain knowledge is important in SAP careers.
