Govt will send notices to Google and Skype asking them to set up servers in the country and give access to its internet data.

Concerned about militants using BlackBerry or Internet to plan attacks, India is pushing the smartphone maker Research in Motion, Google and Skype to open up its data for government monitoring.

What do you think peopel, Is Government intervening too much into privacy?

Infact they are intervening too much,  What are my privacy rights? This govt seems to think they have a right to snoop on everything that we do. Let UID come and they will have it at the click of a button. Blackberry ok, but google, skype there is too much personal stuff here, and we don't want the government to snoop at us all the time.

We have to understand the priority first:What is more important a secure, peaceful country or individual privacy....govt is not going to steal something from its citizen rather they want all this to secure the country....even i would say that we should cooperate govt in this. The GOOD need not to fear of surveillance rather BAD should.

If it is for security of India, then they must have to give necessary information/access to security agencies.

Sometimes that can be hard to say. But when you are worried about situations like this the government just might have to take a look into this. It really depends on far they want to go with this.

Government is doing the same for Public good. Just to ensure that there is nothing like another 26/11. I am fully in support with the moves of the government . However data can be misused for narrow political purposes. My personal belief is that this wont happen for a few years to come before the values of our Government becomes so cheap as to start having a Big Brother Approach.

Google is already providing E- mail Details to Indian Agencies already.. any officer of SP rank can Mail Google Support for asking for Mails and ip Logs citing reasons why they what it ( Police have nic.in mail addresses )

I dont think how they are going to monitor ALL mails since we have a Millions of emails transiting every second... most for the Data is Useless.. Where the Hell India will have chain Super Computers processing -analyzing data ?? What about the VPN connection i am using ?? They dont have Computer to intercept my connection .. I as Individual cannot believe india can Do anything of it .. In Terms of IT Progress We are a BACK OFFICE nation running American MS Windows On American Tech Machine which is Made in China.I read lots about 8 percent plus growth stuff.. jst drive from your office to home..you will see all that on streets .

Taniya, its not for the ordinary that we want our Govt. to have access. Its for the anti-social elements. Its under wanted conditions that they can track the mails and messages. If US Govt. has access to your mails and messages on Google, Skype and Blackberry, why do you think Indian Govt. should not force it?
