"As the Air India strike continued for the fifth day Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP )) alleged that it was a ploy to shut the national airline, and demanded the prime minister speak on the issue."

So do they really need to do this strike to sell it off or shut it down??

Do you think this can be a reason?

Ploy or not, it is worth selling the Air India and Indian Air Lines. If private can do something, it is better to allow them to do. Government can concentrate where private can not be allowed to enter.

I do not think so . They can sell it openly wihtout doing any such thing. I do not see any need to create a hue and cry for such reasons..

How True!!

How else is it that the so called planned merger of Air India with Indian Airlines was so ill designed and poorly executed.

Whatever happened of NACIL, except remaining another name?

Were planners unaware of disparities? What was planned timeline for change? The questions may not end yet answerability being completely missing it is easiest to remain in denial and be evasive.

It all appears a designed effort to benefit self interests and private operators at cost of exchequer's resources.

In a open selling operation, one needs to call bids and go for the best bid.  Given the present scenario of scams, this will result in another scam.  Selling it surreptiously will suit the powers that be.

Its better to shut down. When the workers are becoming powerful and dictating terms to the management, its the best time to close down any organisation. There are some flaws with some of the pilots and the management has every right to take corrective steps. Junior Doctors in Govt.Hospitals and Pilots in Aviation sector are becoming a headache to the Govts. They need to be shown the exit doors.

Its suits many players to see AI shut down, especially the private players to whom AI has always been a thorn in their side. And what better way to make an acquisition which is non functioning, they will try to buy it for a song like was done in the case of HCI with their chain of Centaur Hotels all over India (by coincidence HCI was also a subsidiary of AI)

Its all a power play by the politicans on tax payers money. When private airlines can post profits, why cant AI do the same ? they know that tax payers money can be utilized to bail it out. In todays paper there is an Advertisement about the package that pilot gets and Y r they on stike mode? The profitable routes are sold to private airlines - this show the stragtgy ........ There is no business model in AI to carry forward. Y should the politicians get free ticket in a debt ridden company... God can only Help as we cannot understand wht the problem

Darshana everything said and done see the timid approach of the government. Tata is interested in an Airline sell him the national carrier and see it will start earning profit. Air India originally belongs to Tata give back to them.

The Govt can sell it without a problem. Frankly the airline needs to be shut down or sold off to private players. The taxpayer is the loser as the wages to the employees of the airline come from the taxes. And then the employees go on strike demanding more wages. This is absolutely preposterous.

Govt of India can't sell Air India as it is our national carrier. They are operating it despite of over 2500 cr annual loss every year. It is their boundation.

The present situation may not have been created to shut down the Air India. However, if the piolets continue such strike and shut down the work, the day will not be far when they themselves would create a situation of closing down the unit. Today is the time of competition and Govt need not to think as to how the PSU can be wound up. The company will be killed only because of the competition after all the struggle for the survivour theory is there. Company itself is running into losses despite their fare being too high and it is the duty of all to see why they can not profitable when their competitors are.

Yes, they can sell it openly , but they want to give it to specific company which

is already there in the mind of some persons of the govt., hence this conflict

is continue.

Thanks for referral, Darshana.

I remember watching an educational film clip "The eye of the beholder". In the clip one innocent person branded differently by 5 persons from different strata of society. 1) As a lunatic by a security guard, 2) a real hood by a Taxi driver, 3) a murderer by the house maid, 4) an ideal son by a mother and 5) a perfect match by a blonde. We perceive people or things as we wish them to be seen. The BJP is a party of businessmen the former Jan Sangh and believes in promoting the business houses and industrialists. It believes in privatization of business as in USA and has therefore put up the argument.

No,but if they still plan so ,will be nice and a wise move. The aircrafts are lowest standard, the services are poor-most.The employees are dull and less interested wrt loyalty to Air India.

I don't think they have done a ploy if they want to sell it off they could do this without creating a scene.
