Banks also use IT systems. And who can maintain them, if not for an IT background person. No doubt, it can be argued that everything can be outsourced. Even for this, the Bank has to understand what is being outsourced, evaluate the proposals, negotiate with the vendors, communicate their issues to the outsourced vendors, etc. Only an IT person can do this.

Do an analysis of your own. Research at your own ability... I believe you'd find answers there!! It’s a decision that you need to take and it’s appropriate that you draw your own blueprint... Here's a suggestion...

Hello ! Lavanya ,

As a student , you are naturally curious .

Hyderabad is nearby your University . Have you visited the ICICI BANK's so-called ICICI KNOWLEDGE PARK  developed by the ICICI ?

The Knowledge Park was exclusively created for Research & Development . All activities related to IT   are projected at this recently opened Park.

Is it not exemplary on the part of a Banker , the ICICI ?  Yes !  It is .

Banking is a magical world that combines natural beauty called money with other created ones to zoom past the hurdles of a bygone era in creating a knowledge society .

As well, you can also visit the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance , Mumbai and the Indian Banking Association , Mumbai , to find out the IT Syllabus in Banking Courses and Exams.

IT is our strategic response to increased global markets . It is our diversification to eliminate geographical reachability ! We are reaping benefits of advanced technology .

IT is our synergy motive , managerial motive , value maximisation motive & increased market power motive .

It is very good if a IT engg join banking field. Banks really need talented engg to create highly secured and high perfomace web applications, they want IT engg to turn their physical data to electonic, they want complete automations. And for this they need good management and technical people. Even they are ready to pay good for this.

As pointed out in the movie "3 idiots" engineers are ready to work as bank clerks/officers. The educational background has no meaning at all. From the Banks point of view, it will be good for them. But when it comes to the individual, I cant support.
