Well, instead of working hard to succeed, we always try to bask in reflected glory. Our leaders, when they fail in political areana, try to enter every space be it - education, religion, development, industry, science, sports and surely mess it up to a point of no return. It is high time we leave worshipping borrowed images and feeling good abou things in which we did not contribute and work towards some genuine achievement. Whenever I travel abroad I am ashamed of our hypocritical society. Glorification of past never helped develop future. Chinese are developing and buildin their nation today. Not mouthing incomprehensible words in praise of confucianism and daoism. I have great hope from youth of this country. Let them throw away all the shackles of past, including these politicians, in order to really achieve full potential of this country and society

This shows that people in India has no self respect and just fall on their heroes feets, be it a politician or a star or a cricketer. If the media praise them, they go with it and when they don't they throw stones on their so called "Heroes" houses. Real heroes are forgotten, thats why they are now even returning their bravery medals cos'even that cannot give them enough to eat.We have lots of heroes but we don't recognise them. Even Indian Government doesn't give a damn. Back..

is a pity that with a population of over 1 bn we only have handful of people that have made a mark. Instead of babbling over others' achievements, it is important to know where you stand, what you can do for others. All heroes are not necessarily involved in grand deeds. You do not need to be Dhirubhai Ambani or Sunita Williams to be a hero. Look around.. there is more to be done

I do not think Indians raised in America really think of themselves as more Indian than American...I do not want to generalise and it obviously depends how someone is raised ....but people like bobby jindal who have never been to india will call or think themselves as indian...why do indians need heroes from other countries?.....Why do we do this??

we like deviation from normal day to day life and when we see something out of ordinary, we applaude it. i guess it is human nature. if an american or australian does something nice after settling overseas, they do the same thing. we have more heroes at home and it doesnt get published enough. if it gets, it doesnt get recognised enough because what is so great in applauding someone who lives next door??? isnt that what we all think
