AOL-previously famous for its "walled garden" philosophy aimed at keeping visitors within the portal's confines using AOL-only tools is slated to unveil a redesigned home page today that allows users to integrate various social networking profiles on AOL.com. users would be able to access information from their Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and Twitter accounts all in one place. They'll also be able to post status updates and upload content to their various profiles without having to leave AOL.

Do you think it will generate competition to yahoo, google and others ?

I feel Since social networking sites are the biggest happening trend to meet people online, suppose the user has 2 accounts in facebook and myspace and an AOL account he can login in AOL account and check his facebook & myspace profile and can even update it.This feature is not provided by google, yahoo or others , surely it will generate more competition diverting more users to use AOL. it's like one account multiple login's :)

AOL have a massive user base but lacked customization option until now,the plan of open source is a very good user retain strategy this will help user to interact from one platform obviously it will lock horns with rivals like yahoo, google  and other open source web applications.

Mr.Sushant the feature provided by AOL is not there in Yahoo or google but the open source customization in yahoo or google is not available in AOL both are unique in its own way. though it will create competition but not a massive one.

Websources like yahoo, google offer various features which are unique to user, the plan of AOL to go open source is excellent it instills trust among its users who wants to experience classy features but it will not generate competition in the market because it follows different user experience.
