Apple is holding talks to bring the iPhone to two of India’s biggest mobile phone operators.

Apple’s hit mobile device is currently available in India only through Bharti AirTel and Vodafone, whose cellular systems run on the GSM technology. But Apple is now talking with Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications to introduce the iPhone on their networks, which run on the CDMA technology.  But, will people go for these CDMA sets where there is restriction to choose different networks at their will. Will this Indian iphone be a success??

It will be successfull, as Tata Docomo is doing really well at the moment and with the introduction of iphone in their stable both Docomo and Reliance will be a strong contender in the smartphone segment, and iphone is a killer phone with thousands of applications running in it, it will be surely a success and do well in India.

I dont think so,  Apple does not currently make CDMA-compatible iPhones, a shortcoming that also prevents it from working with Verizon Wireless, the largest cell phone operator in the US.

The Indian market is recognised as one of the fastest growing markets in the world with an estimated 18 million new users per month. The report said that the talks have been ongoing with the Indian companies for four or five months. Currently Nokia dominates the Indian smartphone market, selling 1.8 million devices in the first half of the year, representing a 71per cent market share, compared to Apple’s 1 per cent, but Nokia has some affordable sets to cater to the Indian market and Apple has just iphone and nothing else, so it makes all the more difficult for iphone to get a strong hold in Indian market at the moment.

iPhone will be very popular among high end users, although it will not be successful among Mid and Low end segments.

The problem with Antenna is more of a problem in USA (specifically with AT&T Network). I have seen more than dozens of iPhone 4s here (JB & unlocked) and none of them have any problems. Users in Europe and other places haven't reported any problem also.

What has the "proprietorship" to do with customer? Do they care if the OS is "open" or "closed"? The answer is a big No. Do you go to a store and ask for a phone which is open? I don't think so. Please do not quote Android numbers as the reason for it's popularity is low price (free for OEMs). Please also note that this RIM is also a proprietary OS which doesn't hinder them at all. If you can sell one Blackberry, you should be able to sell 3 iPhones at least.

There is a problem with antenna and cost will be near by 46K.

More important is Apple shows more proprietorship.
