in my opinion ,Very simply put: There is good design, and there is bad design. A bad design cannot be saved by a gimmicky 3D effect and in the same breath, a good design can very easily be ruined by it. 3D effects should only be used in the event that they add real value to the visual communication of the brand and not as a fashionable "seller".

A logo is as good as it looks. The test of a good logo is in its ability to retain its charactrer, look and feel irrespective of its size -- whether in a business card or on a large billboard. Many 3D logos fail in this respect. They tend to lose their identity when subjected to dimesnional stress such as reduced to fit a business card. 3D renditions do generate an immediate impact but may not create lasting impressions. End of the day conventional logos are more durable and sustainable

In my view 3D logos are purely part of a range of tools and techniques that designers can employ to facilitate an appropriate Corporate Identity program. Corporate Identity for companies is about creating a relevant identifier, a unique tool to showcase and highlight a companies assets, as such, wether they be 2D or 3D, makes no difference if the Identifier is on brief. In the end with all Corporate ID's only time will tell

I think 3D logos are a natural evolution of Corporate Identity design, caused by new technologies we could not use before to express Brand Identity. But the key point to decide whether to create a 2D or 3D logo is Brand personality and values. If we are briefed a direct, simple or straightforward brand, it would be more coherent to create a 2D logo. The other way arround when talking about complex, enriched or high-tech brands. In the age of new technologies, 3D logos are about to and will be part of our lives.

absolutely NO. There should not be any static value for “Logo” trends, no matter what; logos will always be artificial constructs and will come into existence, manifest and thrive in many exotic ways and flavors in a near future
