Indian and Chinese economy survived recession like anything, and the GDP is on a upward trend, due to the Domestic market which is very strong in both the countries and other asian countries, so asian countries are doing a lot well than west. For year and a half we survived and grew much better than west. But, some say we are stil very much dependent on west.....Are Asian economies still dependent on the west??

yes, still most of the trade of asian economies happens with west..we are still hugely dependent on them..still we depend on their technologies and partnership.
When West sneezes Asia catches cold.  Whatever may be the views on west, we can not deny the west is a group of developed nations whose economies far far larger than asian countries.

yes Asian economies still depends on the western world particularly china. major market of the products from Asia is western world. USA is a consumer economy while most of Asian economies depend on exports for growth in their output

The scenario would be turned around if we get India's money stashed in foreign banks in dubious forms!

Most of the asian economies are developing economies expect few . For west Asian countries are markets in term of getting cheap employee or exporting there products to Asian countries etc . We depend of them for technological know how and help during hard days.....

Asian economies are dependent on west however they are developing very fast. Globe being treated as one village its not correct to say one is dependent on other. During this recession most of the west economies were affected badly but Asian economies like India & China stand to this global recession also. So the dependence curve is shifting for sure.

Dear Esha,

Thanks for referring this debate to me. Well, I have a difference of Opinion with your say that Asian Economies are still dependent on the West. In my view; most of the economies in the world have gone Global so it is not that Asia is dependent on the West or vice versa and it is interdependence which is showing influence. And as far as the matter of Higher GDP in India and China is there we are still developing economies and that too have lot of consumption so we are still having growth on our charts. All developed economies have no room to go further… so they have the down side to face.  Yes definitely “still we depend on West for their technologies and partnership” but on the contrary “they depend on us for large consumer markets.”They have technology and we have consumers which strikes a near perfect balance.

I think the west and the east are interdependent. Even economic relationships between eastern nations have improved considerably in the past few years. During the economic crisis the eastern economies have shown much strength and decoupled well ahead of the west. So whether it’s trade or capital, it is going to be mutual.

No we are not.. not right now. We are still in recovery stage and this time I do not think the same mistake will be repeated. Having tough time is one thing and going back to recession is totally different, we cannot mix them.
