Being young has never been easy, and history has proved that. For India's sunrise BPO industry, it has not been an easy task being a young and happening spot. Young - in terms of age and also its average members being in the 19-21 bracket - and happening - for being in the midst of a lot of action. Apart from bringing economic independence to youngsters straight out of college, BPOs have also brought about a change in the way young India talks and thinks

To my understanding, the question: Are BPOs altering Young India? YES. But the question should be is it positive or is it negative!? Currently, as far as young people are concerned, they surely get a job immediately after passing college, but it is only good till the time BPO business exists. They must acquire specialized skills to keep themselves secure and confident. They must learn to explore the possibilities related to their competency and knowledge domain, instead of going for easy and fast money and regret later.

The BPO industry has changed the mind sets of young India. But for that matter all industries have their own ways of change in mindsets and perceptions. Its just that the BPO industry is highlighted which makes it seem like youngsters working in govt organisations or other private organisations are stagnant and not affected with time and the West,, and  adding on to  that bpos are doing the best jobs by working for foreign countries,We are just making them dependable on us and we are penetrating into their social, political and business,SO i am not agree in case of youth

When I was in my graduation days, many of my friends joined BPO. They also wanted to study MBA as I was preparing for in spite of the fact,(Which they only told me), of BPO experience getting accepted in BPOs only.Nowhere else.Still they joined them to strengthen their english and get an exposure of work pressure.....

BPO's certainly have changed those working in BPo directly and indiectly people at large

For a clear understanding on the change one needs to work in a BPO to experince it and in other cases one has to associate with BPO to see it

Change in young is both good but bad to a great extent

Having been associated with BPO as PMC building BPOs in Bangalore,I have seen the effects and affects of this culture

For a few it was aboon to start earning early to support thier parents and come out of financial difficuties.

For some it was stop gap earning to indulge in luxuries one can dream before going on higher education/profession

For most of them it is a WAY to perdition

But one thing was common -Burning out of young blood in avery short time.Working in BPO means you will be wringed and squeezed to give all and beyond natural abilities .Work like machines ,forget your identity and become a veggie --all for money

Bu the time you realise that you need a change (sensible ones) thier very nature is disturbed and psycologically changed that your perception to the working world becomes alien

50% of those who taste money at age around teens to twenty  would have become spendthrifts and junkies/Persons without Value of real life

They in turn indirectly affect the lives of many with whom they mingle -personally as well as officially

Need less to say it was actually Indian culture was really changed by BPO

as far as i think it is emerging as a temporary jobs for the youth graduate students.they get job here easily and for boys it is easily to manage their plans as they can work in night shifts too.and with referring to the present recession this is good to do something better then nothing..at least they can improve their english and improve skills.

Well its a completely Individualistic opinion if one wants to pursue his further education or start earning. people who have bigger dreams can never quit them for money, if they do... the big dream was just a mere illusion to them. Dropping the idea of further education can be influenced by various other reasons as well and we have 100s of bodies to blame not just a BPO.

BPO's have offered a plethora of opportunities for the youngsters to make a respectable living. Not just the youngsters but also people from all walks of life find a suitable place in these BPO's as it does not require any major skill aquisition. On the contrary, is it good enough for the youngster's to pursue it as a sustainable career? I guess majority of us would vote education more important.

I agree to You Mr Venkatesh ,, they are changing the mindset of youngs, at the age when they should pursue higher education they play with biological clock, and spoil there health. Government should bring legislation specifing minimum age required to work in BPO's.

Yes, BPOS are changing the outlook of youth. Now we can say that Indian youth is on the path of western developed countries where at least people are self dependent interms of money naturally solves the problem of unemployment and poverty as the BPO's employee play with good salaries and also continue to study in afternoon

Well as frm my point of view m very much disappointed, in corporate as far as bpo concerned m working in it but honestly say i had a much pain specially mentally cause...since frm training started & after the completion of product, voc delievery, quality...mean while when this things tought us... seniors & managers has not fullfilled their work & commitment. They polished us how to interact wit customer wit politely, softone & in enthu way...but it is an aghastible fact that they dont know how to behave wit agents..First of all they need to get train themselves in such a manners...from upper side, my company shown a very good part but frm inside everyone is dam selfish..v the agents have to get settle down in Co. criterias but wat bout their criteria says...wat the system is finally that has to be followed but they only play wit us..however my call was good or bad but was that a way to league my voice to all in my batch as so collegues too ? i dont know managment is sleeping or wat.. or like as no mgmt hand & implementation has done...if i feel my voice not secure then why the hell shud i feel my job secure...they only tought us not a single data shud league frm premises but my voice has leagued frm quality dept room.Company belives in openess & transperancy, then y they didn't assured me previously that this can happen further...After all wat i gathered made in a month, invested a lot of money to make my strength to built my power in speech, skills dat all it tuk just a few secs vich has spoiled my momentum  & also my desires burned in the start of first month only .... so now how can i work taking such a big burden on my head as well as on my shoulders while i interact wit customers cos m losing my mentally preparations & strategy too a day by day.. HOW SHUD I AGAIN STAND AND FACE???

Statistics have proven that the knowledge base that existed in India was due to the pursuit of education as people had to compete for limited resources. Now with easy money in BPOs, I think the pursuit is lost so is the bigger dream. I would certainly agree that in the longer run there will certainly be health hazards in the form of chronic diseases such as diabetes and back pains, courtesy the unhealthy work culture in BPOs.

Working in night shifts in not something new. Many persons in railways, hospitals, police & other emergency service work during night hours only. So I don't think there is any need to create so much hype about the working conditions in BPOs. Infact they are providing good employment opportunities to the youngsters
