The purpose of college education is to empower the individual to succeed in the future in a perticular stream. Success is how the individual interprets it- maybe monetary, maybe respect at work.
However, the college education system in India, is opting new strategies and technologies to prepare its students for future. But is this enough? Do you think colleges today are really preparing us to take on the future?
Ya , many colleges are in motive to earn money in management quota and also they won't care about student life and in some college, Lecturers are not technically good and also they don't have required qualification to work as lecturer for example UG graduates working as Lecturer ,for this position minimum PG is required and then only could teach well.
See, if you expect institutes/ colleges to baby feed you then you are wrong. Spoon feeding stops once you are out of school. You are on your own. Any Institution is never bad or good. Initiative should always be from the students side. Just in case you want to tag an institute with a "Good" or "Bad" tag, then I'll say that an Institute is as good or as bad as the students studying over there. I don't believe that purpose of the college education is to empower the individual. Empowerment always comes from the initiative taken by the individuals. Cutting a long story short, until and unless we start taking our own responsibilities, things are not going to improve. We should rather ask ourselves whether we have taken initiative to bring the best out of all the resources that we possess?
STOP BLAMING, START TAKING RESPONSIBILITY.
If you have the wisdom to understand something wrong happening, you have the responsibility to stand against it and vice-versa.
I guess Premashalini is totally right but should we not stand-up to make some changes or just argue like big politicians By

No not at all. Most of the colleges specially private colleges even not bothered about the future career of the student. Motivation, career orientation, developing confidence among students, teaching behavioural science subjects, introducing communication skills, spoken english conducting group discussions, lectures in the colleges will help in a long way for career building and compete for the set goals and achieving them. To day if u observe any student of any college u find them lack of subject knowledge whether professional knowledge or general awarness. They should be taught basic requirements that one has to follow systamatically for example news paper magazine reading, how to divide the headings, national/international affaiars, editors colomn, sports colomn, letters to the editor colmn, burning national/international problems, etc and teach them how to retain the subject knowledge and assimilate before the public etc. how to prepare a lecture, for example-introduction (Past), body (Present) and conclusion (future). Instead of having bookish knowledge on the subject he should have in depth knowledge after intensive study by observance, pre planning and fore thought on the subject. Then only the students of present generation develop and groom themselves with boldness, confidence and courage. They should have balanced and in deepth knowledge on allied subjects. By

Colleges are stepping stones for your caeer launch. However many of us have studied various subjects as a part of our undergraduation before we did something to equip our career path. So essentially we need to assess our direction before taking on the college and proceed accordingly. College can be a great ground for networking - an ideal place for future Senior management. So we need to be tactical in our approach. By

This could be answered in one simple way. Just ask yourselves one simple question. Do you think what was taught in colleges could have been learnt just by sitting at home? By

Sarika, now a days our education system is changing rapidly. Their is huge demand of professionals from India, even American President Obama conceded that Indian students are well ahead of American students in science and IT. Huge packages of our IIM students are testimony to their rising demand and professionalism of our colleges. Even private colleges like IBS and symbiosys are in huge demand so how can we blame the system?
Yes, they have a mandate to prepare students to go out of India and serve other countries such as US, UK etc as there is lot of demand there..
Before independence the demand is for Lawyers - all Indians were getting in BL; this includes Gandhi also.
Next came demand for Doctors - medical colleges started in India and doctors destiny is to reach UK and US
Later it is engineering (Civil, Chemical and Mechanical) - colleges started every where in India and engineers were in various countries
Recently it is computes - colleges started and special courses were designed such as MCA and MSc (CS)
Now it is Management - India is responding to that need also...
This story goes on....
All the people who left are from Indian institutes and they are well off, so why do we think wrong about these institutes.
Problem is, India never demanded for qualified people to serve our people. Let us question, how many doctors will work in villages? how many R&D organisations are there to support our engineers to work within the country to create new technologies and innovate? the answer is known to us as FEW and some are totally corrupted.
Stepping into college is to learn hw to survive in the competetive world. Students should be proactive and start doing some activities from where they can mould themselves to face the world after completing their course. So college is the place where students can make themselves and their friends to face the world and to shine in the carrer. Faculties also support sudents to groom them as a best product for the market By

most of the college itself has no future they are hiring the freshers and bachelor degree holders for lect. job , we might have finished PHD but our knowledge would be zero..... only marks matters here, not knowledge
No..they are not providing us with the practical knowledege...just giving the theoritical knowledge wont get us long way..course curriculum should be industry customised...so that the students can understand what actually it takes to get a good job and to become a true professional...teaching us the way college faculties are teaching is just futile..!!! Ya Premashalini, I agree with you. Most the colleges work for money. They have nothing to do with education and future. They organise activities not for students but for more and more admissions.
There should be check on that. You will not be able to count no of colleges we have in India, but you can easily count good colleges.
Sorry if i hurt any Good Lecturers ,I try to say that some lecturers are there who is not teaching well and also showing partiality among students.Really B.E graduates (UG)are working in most popular colleges ,i don't want to mention that college name ,it may create problem i think and y i told here is to make a note about these kind of lecturers and college management should take effort to avoid some inefficient lecturers by means of collecting feedback from students
it may be in your college but according to my idea u should not just tell by ur opinion u should inquire in all views............ By

A big no for this. The curriculum itself is not correct. They are making u familiar with the content of the subject. They are not allowing you to think beyond. They just make you eligible for a post by issuing a pass certificate. We producing hundreds and thousands of engineers, but we are unable to produce off the beat products and technologies.
No today collages growing like a mushroom with the interest of how to make money and how to dupe the people .they don't have proper knowledge ,proper good faculties, but they have proper plan to how get money form the student's parents pocket with the help of organise a frsher parties any idiots event neither interst of the student. Actually student can get to learn to colleges how to create money without utilizing any resources By

No, because today in many coleges teachers are not good teachers, they might be good student in their time. but they are just student themselves because they are not having any practical knoledge of work and even they don't know how to use some softwares those are used in many companies. if they don't know who will teach the student and how'll we say that we are ready for future. When a person wishes to step into a professional life, he is gauged by the skills she possesses, and relevant work experience. Our colleges devote their entire time and resources teaching syllabus, but never concentrate on departing skills to students. Moreover, how many colleges actually offer internships as a part of the curriculum? Compare this to the Western education model, where the quality of your degree is determined not only by coursework, but also research, internships and papers published. Unless this huge deficit in our educational system is met, it will never be able to bridge the gap between an educational and professional life.
