Debate is like Chicken and Egg.

Employer need to consider employee as partner in business just like supplier and distributors. Employer/Management do have ESOP, profit sharing concept and organisation like TCS are on higher side of such relationship maturity curve where they have EVA based evaluation of projects thus, providing incentive to project team to reinforce the vision of company/practices.

Employee on their part have also gone beyond just 9 to 5 workers and came up with innovative ideas to increase productivity, brand value, they feel empowered to be brand ambassador of their company.

We don't see nowadays any carrot and stick managers surviving for long in his/her job against old days.

Exploit maybe a harsh word, but they certainly take undue advantage of the fact that in general, the employees are replaceable due the mediocre nature of most of the work or that the business model is such that (esp. in IT) there is no long term vision, so any premium the candidate demands is short lived limited to that project mainly.  It must also be said that Indian employees needs lots of supervision and checks to produce and produce quality (chicken & engg / cause-effect?).

But, do not just point fingers at the management - their goal is profit i.e. lower costs (of course improve revenue too). Employees too allow them to, by not being knowledgeable of the labor laws (how many know that it is illegal to fire a employee at will), backbiting colleagues, "support" of the manager, presenting incorrect credentials, use official stuff for personal etc.

We need professional employees - who will contribute 100%, diligently, be mature about work-life balance and ethically support the organization together as a team.

I feel that lot of companies exploit labour in india when compared with overseas counterparts. I think this is due to the fact that india does not have strict labour laws. Indians are highly flexible and the MNC's penetrate India only due to this reason. Since the employees like working in long hours due to high pay, the employers also exploit them. The companies are in the business to make profit. They use their workers and other resources to do that.

Yes, I call it exploitation on the ground that the compnaies have extended the work timimngs for the employees. the targets are more, there were layoffs and the every employee was supposed to work mor ethan before and also practice multi-tasking.

Exploitation is strategic part of companies. The employees are themselves to be blamed as they allow to be exploited.
