Yes, I believe it is high time management realizes to nip the evil in the bud.It should take rigorous steps to keep its talent pool motivated and contended enough so that they do not intend to leave their current company. These social networking sites should be used to promote the culture of that company in a positive way by a satisfied employee rather than being used to find a better job.If still the management does not rise up, not just the star performers also the ones that can be converted into stars shall go away. No monitoring can stop a dis-satisfied employee, from social networking.

A person will leave if he wants to it does not have much to do with social networking. If a person does not like work culture he would have searched for other option even without social networking sites. These sites provide a even more options. But still jumping jobs is more of a personal choice and not because you have another option but you jump only if you want to.

Sorry Nikhil,

We can not keep open ended as guys leaving will anyway leaves. It is true but, the Social Network increases the chances for a shift MORE . It reveals hidden opportunity to a few in the right direction. Earlier days, opportunities were known, only to a select few. But, now, the Social Network brings the full gamut of openings at the door steps. Star performer, even when he is not intending to switch over,  will be made to or tempted to secure a better one .

A person willing to leave will leave any which way. Social networking or not. Ok even if you stop access to networking sites, can you stop their physical networking ? No right ! So these naive attempts to retain an employee. Rather you get into details of why an employee wants to leave and then go about improving the atmosphere at office to retain them.

It is like saying better education is making corporates loose star performers. I totally agree with Nikhil. Social networking site is only a tool. Do we believe the same way for Job search websites or go a little back in time, the employment exchanges? then why do we blame social networking websites? Corporates also utilize social networking websites for acquiring the good talent.

Social networking sites providing avenues for the prospective employers and employees as well to choose their candidate and organisation. They are providing a platform for both. Every organisation and individual has right to choose his own way. There is nothing wrong in it.
