Whenever you go for buying anythingthe first thing you see is the quality and then the price. A normal jeans may cost as low as 250-500Rs and then comes the brands who sell them at several thousands. I was actually surprised that in US Levis is something so normal that anyone can have it and anything costilier than it comes under the category of a BRAND!! Poor us, anyways, in day to day life are these brands actually affordable??

A branded product comes with an investment on brand building. This means that the brand has a reputation and trust to safeguard. If it does not, then all the investment gets nullified. Usually, a customer considers that there is an assurance of quality. But a garment brand is something else... You may buy a garment at exorbitant price which is actually produced at ten times lesser price by your neighborhood garment manufacturer. While one should prefer a brand, like our modern day youngsters, one should not blindly go hunting for a brand. Affordability is a different question. A brand is positioned to cater to a consumer cross section. Such positioning is made only after understanding affordability.

It is not. Sometimes it is ok to buy something branded but most of us depend on the end of th season sales or direct factory layouts. Our econmy is still not so strong that we can afford such luxuries. We have a long way to go where uto developing the economy is concerned.

Foreign brans are mainly put together in 3rd world countries. What sells is the brand. It is better to buy local.

And the reason for that is none other than the govt. Because of the double or triple taxes that a retailer has to pay, even indian brands are not affordable. You will be surprised to know that it is cheaper to buy indian products abroad like hair oils and cream than in india. Even indian made clothing is cheaper abroad than in india itself. IT is not only th brand name premium but also the heavy dose of taxation that a garment undergoes before it is sold to us that is crippling.

Most of foreign brands charge 'price' for brand name only!! even if they are manufactured in asia. That's due to artificial scarcity created in the name of exclusive designs. Do you know how brands like nike, tommy hilfiger are very cheap to manufacture...but they sell at much higher price....

I think most of the foreign brands are affordable only for high class people and Majority of the people usually are of middle class, So middle class people cannot afford it.

Considering the ongoing inflation rate and downfall of GDP rates definetly not welcome the affordability factor when it comes to foreign brands (Clothing). Bazaar is still on the growing stage to cope up with the price escallation in the market.

These brands can not be afforded to all. A selective few whose buying capabilities are high, can prefer it.

Foreign brands are sold as per foreign pricing with a little adjustment for the local market. Local brands usually cost much less. Affordable is a relative question - for what? I firmly believe in Be Indian buy Indian even though I have always had unrestricted access to foreign goods.
