If we don’t like the brand – price, style, quality, service – or if we don’t like the company behind the brand, because of the way it behaves, all we need to do is buy the alternative…. So companies and their brands are totally at our mercy”. This was the debate held at The International Advertising Association. So what do you think, are the global brands at the mercy of the consumer. Do give yours views on this interesting debate..

Yes they are at the consumers mercy becasue mainly whatever the global brands create in the market is for the consumers, so ofcourse they are at the mercy of normal consumer who wants to buy the product. And because there are so much of competition among various brands for shelf space it is quite normal that if the product is good then the consumer will go for it.

All the brands, whether global or local, are at the mercy of the consumer. All the products are manufactured targeting the consumers, so they are the ones who decides the faith of a brand. Regards, Anna George, Web Analyst, Nichepro Technologies. Bangalore. http://www.nichesuite.com

If there is no consumer or takers for the brand then what purpose the brand can serve. So it is consumer centric.

It is always customer centric, the customer has the option of going to the second best or alternative products;the customer feel satisfied only when all the criteria is met including the company.

When there is a strong  customer dissatisfaction, business can never grow, stagnation shall be followed by downfall of the business.Unless clever business tactics is applied to counteract dissatisfaction ,it would question the survival of the business.

I dont agree with Anand saying that they will create situation where company plays on consumer's mind to buy a particular product, if people dont want to associate with that brand for some reason they will not there are so many other alternatives and main thing one can't act on one's free will that what he wants to and not. So the brands are at the consumers mercy all the time.

No it is not at the consumers mercy the companies creating these brands have so much knowledge about what they are doing and where they are investing their money and other things, so it is obvious that they know their customers very well and they make the market scenario or create things where people buy the product, like having more shelf space for their products than their competitors and they make situation where people will go and buy what product they want.
