I really think Govt. employees are better paid and served than Private sector. I had seen the Pvt. Companies are only have salary as but they hardly have any other benefits given to employees. If you see Govt. they have a lot of intangible benefits. Like dispenceries, medicines, LTA, leaves housing facilities and over and above job security which makes them stress free. I agree that they may not have very flashy offices and other such infrastructure but atleast they have work life balance and time to enjoy life.

Salary in the Govt sector may be lesser vis a vis private sector but think of the official and unofficial income, favours etc which out beat the income of Private sector.

Thanx Jyoti for the referral.Arguments on both sides of the proposition are noteworthy and nearer to the truth.Whether the salaries,perqs..etc etc are more or not...is not very significant. What is more important is WHAT WE GIVE  BACK IS IN PROPORTION  TO WHAT WE GET. Did any employer/employee(govt. or otherwise) ever considered this? Added to this is SECURITY of the job. Once one enters the employment (somehow) , no force on EARTH can do any thing to him, whatever be his performance/conduct till he is 60.  Is there anything like REWARD & PUNISHMENT? Until and unless we answer and do something decisively in this regard, our discussions/opinions are going to be like a FILE in a Government OFFICE.

everybody knows how agovernament hospital is maintained and how a govt doctor do "service".leaving few examples who are really honest to their service resrt all are for name sake.and still govt pays them heafty salary of around 30-35 thousand just to work for few hours from 9 to 3 pm and maximum patients are referred to their private clinics and rest have to bribe the doc to be looked upon.since iam in medical feild have seen quite no of cases like this and any doctor can make more then his salsry /month from referrals and pvt practices at night.its rather shame to expect more salary and blackmailing govt of strikes for the work todays govt doctors are rendering.there is more to say in this regard but that might hurt the sentiments of many so this is enough

This is the basic problem while I initiate this argument. We tend to concentrate on the higher level in the hierarchy. Please understand that the top level only comprises 10% even less and my focus is on the rest of the subjects since not everyone can be an MD or a manager. However, it does not mean that they are doomed to suffer eternally. Look at the services being availed by the lowest level of govt. employee and compare it with a low level private employee. It is a wonder that a private low level employee does not die of hunger, stress. If you will look at it from my prespective you will find that this is one of the most neglected aspect of Indian economy which may cause serious unrest in future.

Yaa....govt. employees enjoy more luxuries that private employees. But they enjoy on the money which they don't deserve ...on contrary private employees enjoy the money what they deserve.

If you will compare the salaries and services being provided to the govt. employee, you will find that a large chunk of the income tax paid by the private employees goes on in paying the salaries and other perks of govt. staff. In private sector, you will find all rung of salaries from 3000.00 to 1 lac and above but large % is of those who are getting 5000 or less. Please do not compare the higher rung which comprises only 5% of the total private sector.

I can comment on doctors only . They deserve much more pay than they get from the Govt . Reasons being their effort , number of job hours per week , and being not allowed to do their private practice acording to protocol in number of institutions.

No. Look at the resources that they manage and the results that they deliver. Look at any Indian Oil Major (PSU). Compare the CEO's salary with that of any comparable industry that has that resources. The salary difference is stark. Or even lower down in the services, look at a brigade commander(any service). The amount of resources - both men and materials. Materials will run into thousands of crores. Compare salaries....

To some extent I shall agree with DK Sati, wherein he suggests that the top rung is only 5 odd %. But that's what is there very where.Even in the Govt, the salary scales are from a low 3K to about 90 K.The major chunk of employees are on the lower part of the pyramid.Further the govt sector, while it appears huge, is not necessarily so.Majority of people join this sector for the following reasons: Job security, continuity, physical stability (in certain cases), certain benefits like eudcation in govt schools and at times quarters. The employees in the higher echelons do have certain additional previleges, but it takes long to reach there and every one does'nt. Then there are the armed forces. This sector, does not have any certainty of stability in a station. There are movements at the drop of a hat. There are psychological effects of prolonged seperations, educational disruptions etc. This sector has uniformed as well as the non uniformed group. Whereas the non uniformed group has physical stability and laid down working hours, the uniformed one, does not have that previege. The govt, thus creates certain facilities as a compensation. How many of us in the private sector have enjoyed keeping vigil on an icy front with insufficient warm cover over the body and extended exposure ?. The govt sector also has certainnorms for growth and advancement. Incompetence, gets weeded out at the several levels of growth that are built within the system. There is the Police organisation which we all decry at will. How many of us have ever realised that these fellows do not get a proper home to bring up their family, and in most occasions, when we go celebrating the New Year or Christmas,or any other festival, the scarce police outfits, try their best to ensure that our celebrations are not disturbed. There are bad fish, in govt certainly, but are there not enough in the pvt sector ? While the discussion is on a very important topic, i'm afraid it has been commented upon with selective filters and clouded vision. My readers will appreciate, that all employees of the govt wheter they fall in the IT bracket or not are obliged to file an IT return annually.Think of the govt teachers. They do not even get paid on several occasions. The problem, which unfortunately has not been commented upon is the implementation of the govt policies or programs.

It is not what an individual gets. There are more Government servants than required. They are less accountable than their private counter part.
