U r absolutely right but one correction, it’s all over world............... Till date I don't understand, what they will do with colour????????????? During my school days I and my friend were isolated from whole class, when we stood against colour discrimination for a year ……….. It was like ,at first we were only two them, after 15 days watching us fighting for the right cause all the boys in our class joined us then within few days the whole class supported us…….. But this effected my talented and hardworking friend emotionally ………….she left the school for whom the fight began……… She was very young and gave up the fight when is achieved the success ………………the colour doesn’t make any difference ,if people are beautiful from their nature and work…………

Yes and why not. The world itself is skewed towards the fair complexioned. White is the prefered colour when it comes to the human race. And fueling this is the bevy of reality shows on indian television which would not give you a second chance if you were on the darker side. When women have a plethora of creams and lotions why not us men, would be the usual comment heard at supermarkets though the actual effects of such a cream on men or women likewise is suspect.

Gore Gore Chand Se Mukh Pe Kali Kali Ankhe Hai ! Gore gore ho banke chore! kabhi meri gali aaya karo! So many songs/ lyrics of our movies are written on the fairness of the skin.Mostly after every matrimonial meeting the grand ma if had not attend the meeting often says"Ladki Gori hai?"And this is the not the question of only the elder persons but of every body who had not seen the Girl. We Indians are mad after skin fairness.God has given us dark Wheaties type complexions which gives us some what subdued look and even colorful cloths does not suit to us and gives very dull and horrible contrast look. This type of look kills the charm of first impressions on the others. In fair(white) skin the color contrast of mustache and beard imparts a good look for men and for women the reddish tone of chicks and lipsticks gives what!!!! a charming face look!, isn't it? To improve our dark complexions we are consuming so many different types of cosmetics and going for skin treatments but it does not click 100%.The business of cosmetics is based only on advertising and no guarantee of results, knowing to these also every body consumes fairness cream, bleaching lotions etc..with a hope that one day she will become gori and beautiful !!!! What do you say is it not the fairness obsessed? If Mohan das Karamchand Gandhi(my favorite person) had the fair skin, he could be the sexiest person of the century! NO NO OF this kalyug. In short not only Indians every body under this blue sky are fairness obsessed.

VERY SAD FACT IS FAIRNESS IS CONSIDERED AS A VIRTUE AND LESSER FAIRNESS ESPECIALLY AMONG WOMEN, IS CONSIDERED INFERIOR BY MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND THAT IS WHY THE FAIRNESS CREAM MARKET SIZE NATIONALLY IS CONSTANTLY ON THE INCREASE.

Yes, it seems that many years of slavery under white people lead many of us to "fairness phobia". Never forget that beauty contest with full media exposure initiated in countries where white people lives there fore thy have an overall impact on the concept of beauty & we all live with that initiated concept only. Yet, there are changes made to break the jinx since we are too exposed to media & there are ample examples in recent past that evaporate idea of fairness. This obsession is the mindset we are suffering rather than any other advantage it carries. It might take decades to realize by majority of the people that fairness has nothing to do with the personality of a human being.

Yes, no doubt indians are fairness obsessed but actually there's no harm in it. Everyone wants to look good and being fair is an advantage. I really start worrying when i can an tv add projecting that fair applicants are at advantage in an interview, this should not be tolerated. Looking good or bad has nothing to do with one's talent and the tv channels should be careful while airing such adds

This is due to the addiction of majority of Indians to television, and the ads they see on it make them feel that it really works. There is a need for awareness among people, but how can we bring awareness when big superstars like Shah Rukh or Aishwarya are selling such products through ads??These people can do anything for money....

Seeing the kind of promotion in fairness cream and beauty products. it is clear obsession is more. But people who promotes or people think who are fair doesnt think about other side of heart.that is " how the dark coloured people are affected emotionally to some extent by the craze. see india is a ancientcountry with 60% of black people. But no add industry or film industry or even media industry employes them.

While its a slight tussle keeping in mind the dusky beauties, I guess by and large it would be safe to say that Indians are definitely obsessed with fair skin. The sale of fairness creams for men and women are a clear indicator. While on the topic, let me also share that Fair and Lovely is equally popular in Egypt, where I was once based. :)

Disha you are right in your observation. In our country any cosmetic product is always first being test marketed in Chennai. There after it goes all India. If you see the global colours the Africans are black since they are near to the equator and if you closely observe they always wears bright colour clothes in order to be noticed. I think not only in India the presons all over the globe wants to be fair. Michel Jackson was a case in itself. Yes the obsession in India is much greater than other countries and this can be understood since our population base is large.

YES... BUT WHATS WRONG ? ITS HUMAN TO DO SO !! Its Human nature to yearn for something that we dont have. Most of the Whites want a sunburnt & dusky skin... We Indians yearn for White/Fair skin. They yearn for Black hair... we spend millions after Blonde & Brunette hair colour tones. We look for shade & they look for sun. They spend after Sun Tan Lotions & we spend after FAIRNESS CREAMS... ITS FAIR, ISNT IT ?

ur absolutely right. First thing people in India particularly see is the afirness of the opposite gender whether it is friendship, love or marriage or to the matter of fat dating / flirting. but this is not the case with most of the westerners, as they are almost similar to eah other in color. but in our own country the fairness , colour, beauty etc ranges to either extremities. very rarely people fall for less fair people for the sake of money, any advantages in career or society.

Yes, but it is not just Indians but the whole World Population is obsessed with fairness yielding Billions of Dollars of Annual Revenues to the Cosmetics Advertisers. But, one needs to understand that it is not the Artificially acquired Fairness but the Naturally given complexion coupled with the pleasant face, which comes from the inner peace that gives the permanent beauty to anyone.

Indians are focused on fairness and this is due to the fact that the tropical climate of India leads to a darker color. As there is more sunshine, the skin becomes darker, but in colder climes, due to lesser sunshine, the skin is fairer. However, appropriate exposure to the sun is also good for health. Additionally, media and other forms of advertising promote fairness which further reinforces the fairness concept....

Dear Disha, although you are right up to an extent, because the sale of these products is very high in India but considering our huge population you can,t say they are obsessed with fairness, because so are the sale of many other items. FMCG companies are allover advertising their products due to lucrative business prospect in India, again no of fairness products are increasing so are other products also. Its a good sign of developing India where public is having leisure money they are interested in looking good and companies are vying for their attention and not leaving any stone unturned in thier jostling whether its print, television or networking media. So lets cheer the developing India instead of blaming our people.

YOU WILL NOT BELEIVE THAT EVEN IN AFRICA I HAVE FOUND PEOPLE DIFFERENTIATING THEMSELVES ON THE BASIS OF LESS DARK COMPLEXION & VERY DARK COMPLEXION.THESE COSMETICS ARE BEING SOLD LIKE ANYTHING HERE TOO. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT IN INDIA THEY ARE PROMOTING IT AS FAIRNESS SOLUTION & IN AFRICA AS A SOLUTION FOR SMOOTH, SILKY, SOFT..............SKIN.. AT LEAST IN INDIA YOU WILL SELDOM FIND ANY LADY APPLYING FULL CREMES/ COSMETICS IN OFFICE. HERE ONE CAN SEE THEM DOING ALL KINDS OF MAKE UPS WHILE COMING TO OFFICE AS WELL AS LEAVING. WHICH ANY WAY I DON'T FEEL BAD. AS ANYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LOOK BEAUTIFUL/HANDSOME.ITS COMMON HUMAN NATURE TO ATTRACT TOWARDS ANYTHING WHICH APPEARS NICE.IF ONE GETS SAME PRODUCT IN TWO DIFFERENT PACKING, ONE IN ORDINARY & THE OTHER WELL PACKED, WHT WILL HE CHOOSE....
