Are Indo-Pak talks an exercise in futility?

As we all know about India's backfoot with the talks with Pakistan. Another Indo Pak talk has been failed. Seeking to blame India for the "last-minute hitch" in talks, Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi bursted on his Indian counterpart S M Krishna and appeared to be unwilling to commit to a roadmap for future engagement and made it clear that the dialogue cannot move forward if Kashmir is not discussed.

I think yes,the simple reason that who ever attacks India do not belong to Pakistan.What ever India tells should be provided with proof.India will spend time, energy, money in only providing the proof which pak will eventually say Rubbish and provide more.SMK should not hav gone there in first case.Pak used this opportunity to speak vengence against India infront of global camera.If Pak was intersted in peace tlak,Qureshi would not have spoken like AL Quaida reprasentative.

The problem between India & Pakistan is historical and we have already fought four battles. Both are nuclear capable and are of same origin. BOth have the same set of leaders and both have fundamentalists, hardliners as well as moderates. Its in interest of both the countries to engage in talks as well as trade so that the mutual trust deficit will somewhat get blurred. So whatever efforts are made in braking the ice should be welcome and not be discouraged, as this will only embolden the fundamentalists and hardliners. Watch any news programme and see what is the trust deficit between both the counties.You say we are repeatedly getting bruised by terrorist activities arising out of its soil, Pakistan says everything is fair in war and until you solve Kashmir these activities will not be stopped on its soil as these players are NON STATE ACTORS. I belive sanctity and good sense will prevail between two powerful nations and some day peace will be established as the future belongs to youth and they see that war has no future for thier growth.  am all for continuation for talks.

after this grand humiliation ...yes !! @sm krishna .. not backing pillai publicly !. @sm krishna not reacting to hostile stares of qureshi @krishna sm is not gud with word games . so if u send anyone fro talks give him /her absolut powers & secondly send the best not the ...... otherwise pakis will continue fu..ing indians forever on world foras !

India has been wasting not only time but also resources in so called Indo-Pak talks. We are one of the fastest growing economy, and there are other countries who wants to have relations, but India is wasting time and money in Pakistan. What one fails to understand is that why is it so important to talk to Pakistan, when it more or less an one side affair. i think India should develop good relations with some of the African countries like South Africa, which are rice in natural resources so that it can help in our economic development.

I don't understand what do they mean by trust building...

How do they build trust between people? By playing "ANTAKSHARI"?

I cant believe people in my own government..how can I believe Pakistan after seeing this country since I took birth?

I have lot of distrust in my own country PM,FM and all that they just want to give in to Pakistani foreign strategy or agenda and I am afraid they want to sweep the carpet even before I realize...

In such circumstances talking about trust building, CBM, Restrain...such words really makes us feel hopeless and irritated.

Will ISI change it's foreign policy and it's own nationalist agenda just because here in India few people finding talks, CBM, Trust Building things very interesting?

Will ISI change it's long invested foreign policy towards because Indian and Pakistani News Papers started Aman Ki Aasha?

Will ISI say "India, I gift you entire Kashmir..Live hapilly ever after" Just because few people in India believe, when politicians talk among each others,then some magic tool is erasing all Kashmir policy of Pakistan?

What actually cooks inside those talks? They exchange Kolkata Rasogulla and Pakistani Halim?

And people and armies die on the borders and cities?

hello Himanshu,s it looks like a futile effort time and again but,improvement in relations will not happen overnight both should have lot of patience and mainly strong possitive will to eliminate descrepancies and differences.only time is the best judge.

the trust between the two nations is very bad and whatever they do is suspected. so, i dont feel there is a need for any talks untill and unless the trust is established.
