A recent survey says that Media students are "most employable" among graduates. Does this stand true even during this recession times? Let us have a debate on this topic where we can discuss the various reasons for the same.

I feel that the media students do have advantage because be it any condition the media industry has to work. Let it be downturn or growth, it is a news and has to be reported. And according to the employment statistics on an average 63% of students from all courses are in employment - while for media studies the figure is 71%.

There is a difference in employable and employment. I do agree that there are a lot of career opportunities in media industry but it doesn't mean that the media student are most employable. The situation is same with every sector, jobs are there but students lack the adequate sills and qualifications required for a job. Therefore, I would strongly disagree with the argument.

I agree to the fact that media students are "mostly employable". At least in India, where there are so many news channels available, each for 1-1 different topics, our country producing highest number of newspapers, magazines and films, I don't think there is any scarcity in the career opportunity of media students....

I also agree with Himanshu, Media industry students have career opportunities even during this recession times, Media has to work even to show that there is recession going on. It has to make people realize the impact of recession, It has to printed, live telecasted, several discussion are conducted, views are posted. etc..ie the industry will work and will definitely require people to work for them.

Dear Himanshu, I also feel that media students have an added advantage during this time of recession. The media industry is growing at the rate of 5.4% annually. This will also generate more employment opportunities.

I agree with Sudeep

Now a days media hire only experienced professional (not less than 2 years of experience). & students who have just passed out their journalism degree are treated as freshers and said because u don't have any experience we cannot hire you. But to get experience media should atleast give them a chance to work in their organisation.

Now a days media industry don't even allow for internships coz they want aspiring students to join their own institutions for Journalism degree.

I am saying this coz i have seen many students suffering from this situation.

Iagree with sudeep. Take the case of automobile dealerships. They operate with 60 - 75 % strenght . this is due to lack of skilled worksforce. though freshers are also considered they usually leave due to lack of focus & aim.

Anyone who has a focus , works towards it & has abreast with fast changing times will definately score

I agree with Sudeep. there is a diiference in availability of job opportunities and being employable. Being employable means having the right qualification for the available jobs, and this might not be true.
