Yes..to a large extent migrants are responsible for rising crimes in the cities. People come to big cities with lots of hopes. when they found no job, no place for living they start getting frustrated and turn to illegal activities. If you go to criminal courts and see the daily board of cases you will find almost 80% cases are against migrants.

In a more practical sense , if we analyse the situation in mumbai, the major root cause for criminal activities is migrants from banladesh, UP and Bihar. they have used the word 'SAMAJ' aminly for this purpose. But on the whole in a glaobal sense , we can see the migrnats have helped in the advancement of the society and place they life( particularly Indians in USA and Europe

Crime report in any police station will show you that mostly the migrants are involved in crimes upto 70-80%. I can say so because many of my relatives are in police department including my own mother... The local crimesters are very less in comparison...

Our unbalanced socio-economic structure is basically responsible for crimes not only in cities but rural areas also... Motivating factors are : Govt. job to incapable persons. Application of politics among voters of their own locality.....

Its a pity if people think like that. Think of a farmer who is growing and supply his farms goods to a city. He or his sons are needed to migrate to the same city because they are not able to make ends meet. He is considered a cause of trouble and is treated like goons. Although he is now being exploited by the better placed goon of the city. The onus lies with police and administrators. They need to root out police politician criminal nexus. It is a lame excuse from police and politics is being played as politician are involved as well.

It is probably these "immigrants" that allow those who complain their cheap domestic labour among other things. These are perhaps the most exploited people It is sad that India should call it's own citizens "immigrants" (so very British) sadder still that victims of global economy are blamed so a few can exercise more greed

A agree with Ravindra. How you can call your own country men as migrants. These migrants work for lowest wages and bring prosperity to the state and some times fill up the coffers of CWG frauds. There is a need for PC to clarify who is a migrant from which country he or she comes from? If we define, then what Government is doing to help them to get used to the culture of the place. What kind of medical services are being offered to them? where do they live?

The gist of the statement is ill thought out and worse, wrongly illustrated for a man of PC's integrity, maturity, intellect and responsibility. He should have thought a lot more before making such a strong statement. The topic is very very sensitive and however much the statistics back him the home minister should have monitored the tenor and phrase of his words a lot more. For the issue is far more complicated and a lot of factors play key role in increasing crime rate among people who move into major cities with a hope for the future.
Howsover if the media has misinterpreted his statement as he claims, it highlights the total underprofessionalism of the media. Hope neither is true and it was a case of genuine mis-communication.

Migrants leave there native place in search of better career/economic/education. If this demand is not met the very purpose of their migration fails. This leads to frustration and at times may result to above action. So i feel its not the migrants, but lack of proper urban planning missing on the Govt's part.

I think all the minister and people who are involve in big crime and had millions of dollar are migrants according to the debate? At least wake up now hindustanio, and stop blaming the people who are only living their life with great difficulty.

No it’s completely the misperception of the society. In fact one can observe that the states from where there occur a maximum number of migrations are the worst states of the country. Yes there are some incidents where migrants are involved but that does not mean crime are fully done by them, local people are the one who commits the crimes and the migrants gets blamed.
