The poor and deprived children particularly in rural India is really suffering due to social cause than the facilities. There is no hard and fast rule for them to go to school and interestingly teachers remain absent frequently in such schools. Many parents avoid girls to go to school in a feeling that ultimately they will marry and leave to work in other houses. The parents have no knowledge about the benefits of education. Interestingly, those who studied a little in spite of all these odds don't work and behave properly and play cards etc. which gives a bad impression on education. Of course, rarely a few succeed to get jobs in towns and forget their village.

Yes it's true, but almost all those children are born to work. Its unfortunate for them that as they be capable enough to return back at their place they start earning and that is the only option for them to survive. Govt. has some plans but we very well know that plans are and for papers only, they will never be implemented. Just we can say sorry to those poor fellows.

Yes. It is true. But it is not enough. Children are made to work on account of their poverty. They sometimes need to support their family. So unless a solution is found for this aspect, the opportunities available to poor and socially deprived children to educate themselves cannot be fully utilised by them. One solution may be to take them away from their family temporarily - like the Gurukul system of yore.

Depends on two questions : 1. What do we mean by opportunities ? 2. What do we mean by education ? Compare the answers to these two questions regarding a government school for poor children , and even a decent middle-class private school , and you will see that children from the poorer society have neither the opportunities nor an education. Giving free school-books and free mid-day meals is certainly to be appreciated. However education is more than this ; can even a single government school boast of a clean and hygienic environment , with decent classrooms that are properly equipped and brightly lit ? Can even a single government school boast of a decent teacher student ratio ? If at all children from the poorer classes are getting all that they are supposed to , what accounts for the high school drop-out rate at the secondary level ? How many children who do get a primary and secondary school education go on to find decent employment ?

Those poor and socially deprived children don't even get to know what is their potential and what are the oppurtunities to get educated. Then where comes the question of giving opportunities to them to educate themselves.

Dear Sujana, Raju & Anand, Policy and programs of course are there but when the implementers don't care to take any initiative to implement those policies the same become useless. A common man particularly the poor and totally layman does have any source to get knowledge about such policies. So, these documents become mere political stints without any use.
