Earlier, students used to toil hard to score good marks and now a days they have to toil harder to pursue their dream course, all thanks to boys not matching their academic standards.

Some city-based Pre-University Colleges have been setting a higher cut-off percentage for girls, as compared to boys. One’s shortcomings cannot take away from another’s achievements. If it’s about fair play, then the parameters for admission should also be uniform.

So I want to ask you all, do you think PU colleges are right in having a higher cut-off for girls as compared to boys during admission?

I sometimes wonder if we are people living in the 21st century. All the talk about equality and doing away with all forms of discrimination has yielded no result. Rather what i see is a rise in the number of incidences where one community or a group is trying to bring down the other or trying to trample upon the others right to live life with dignity as per their wishes. Be it the khap panchayats killing young couples in the name of honour killings or different religious groups fighting for reservations. N now this. Why should girls have higher percentages to secure a seat in the colleges? Why is their such a disparity? Are you trying to prove that girls are much smarter than boys who are plain dumb or there's something more than what is seen with the eye. If we talk about equality then it should not just mere statements made to impress someone rather one should also practice it in his or her life, which the PU colleges do not seem to be doing.

Hi ... Sheetal ...  problem now faced by girlStudents in getting a birth in "GirlsSchools only" is obvious. But, be logical at the same time.

Look ... admission problem is  in GirlsSchools but not in CoEds .. ! It is known that girls have secured more percentage.  U dont think this is natural ? Want to blame somebody ? That won't be fair.

Here on TooStep ... we feel helpless ... as this may happen.

.............................................

All the time, when such a problem props up "Reservation Policy" is scrutinised and criticised. Is this policy changable every month/ year ? Is not such a big issue decided in Parliament ? May U change it even U decide now ? Then why raise this 'sensittive' issue now and then ? Equally, are not members of TooStep 'law-abiding' people ... may we be-little our Parliament when ever we like to ?

IT SHOULD BE THE OTHER WAY ROUND.AS THE GOVT WANTS 33% RESERVATION FOR WOMEN,THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SECURE SEATS WITH A LOWER % OF MARKS,TO HAVE MORE EDUCATED WOMEN TO REPRESENT ASSEMBLY AND PARLIAMENT.

I agree with you Ms Sheetal, this indeed is not correct. People should be judged by their capibilities and not gender. Thanks for the referral.

Sounds funny as long as there is no high level statistical study on performance by such colleges.

I am strongly in support with you Sheetal. In fact there should not be any reservation and if we want our country to progress we must make sure that all are equal and we must try to follow this.  There should not be any difference in the criteria and qualifications.  I am sure the girls are proving their self best and they can do what ever they want to do.  They must be treated equal and given all the benefits which boys have.
