Medical reps are, but a lot depends on the product. No matter how good at sales you are, if the product is not satisfactory, it won't sell!!!

The FaceBook of a Company are the Sales Rep. only.Technology and internet are mere tools which cannot replace a result oriented mind of a sales representative. Yes to some extent the Sales Representative-can be a core salesman to the Director Marketing of the Company to some extent the work of sales rep. has been made easy by the varied forms of reports which can be generated in no time through the advent of IT technology.May be in course of time the entire employee have to work as a sales rep as a team to be a winner in this competitive Global economy

we can say that they are productive as they are the major revenue generators for any company. As trend changes in all fields but even now the sales representative's profile is same and even deteriorated. Previously they used to represent the company but now a days they came under lot of pressure which is leading them to do wrong activities which is spoiling they reputation in the market. Example as said Eureka Forbes. Nowadays sales has become very competitive that companies are trying to reach the direct consumer for they sales, and this can happen through sales representatives. Definitely they are productive for the company and if they are not so then we should not only blame them but also look into the system in which they are working for any flaws.

Natteraja thanks for referral. Everything cannot be done without meeting and face to face talk. Hence the Slaes Representatives are productive since they communicate with the purchaser face to face.

NATTERAJA R. ARIKRISHNAN Thanks for referring such an interesting topic.I strongly support your idea. In highly competitive business world todays Sales Professional should spend their TIME on 3 key strategy Strategy1: Spending more TIME for Personal Branding(through Public Speaking, writing) than Sales presentation alone.FOR EXAMPLE:Insurance Salesperson can start a blog on HOW TO REACH OMBUDSMAN FOR CLAIM SETTLEMENT with contact address Strategy 2:Today"s Salesperson should spend more time on reading prospective clients Industry journal .Only Product literature of company will not be be enough for sustained competitive advantage. For EXAMPLE:If I am an Insurance Sales Person and my client works in Telecom industry ,It would be wise to get in touch with some articles on Current trends in Telecom industry rather than talking only about IRDA Strategy3:More FOCUS should be given on the side of Client"s Buying Style than Selling Styles alone Book Ref:Buying Brain Wishing You Happy Buying and Selling!

Sujatha I am afraid I disagree with you on the subject. Today the designation has changed to Sales Officer and they are the back bone of the company and in most of the cases those sales man has changed to Distributors sales man and they are contributing where there is more money that is the difference and they are useful.

In India still sales guys are the best option to achieve the numbers, any product marketing, still sales peoples are used, even though most company has come up with showrooms or product experience centers for there consumers but for generating walk-in to those showroom or do live demo of there products at the customers door step there is no alternative for the sales representatives . Yes but for sure The definition of the sales rep are not the same as it was 5 years back in terms of there day to day work format They are more of brand promoter then just being a sales guy.

If it is a technical matter yes. In my previous job, I have had a "Sales Rep" who called, got preliminary details, using his mobile set up a 4-way conference call first, brought me into the loop and between the 5 of us clarified (most of) my problems which was followed a day later with a "full-team" with a technical proposal.

Yes they do, may be with some exceptions. I feel selling is the toughest job. Without salesman it would not have been easy for companies to sell their products to customers. May be there is lack of motivation. Its very difficult to keep the motivation going. But then salesman do try to achieve sales.

Advertisement, promotion, branding is supportive medium that can be help directly- indirectly in selling. For sales person it is tool or source. All features, benefit can not be explain throgh ad or other medium for that it must require executive. Many companys are doing ad-promotion still all company have sales force, sales target.... In this debate it can include many things..... and S.R. is strenght for comapny, after sales service, follow up, problem solution who can give??

Yes eventody The sales reps are very productive in the sense you need someone to represent your product to the market to give knowledge andthe utilisation. only the reps can do that the productivity depends on the knowledge andskill they develop through the company which market the product.

Yes, But they should have well knowledge about the products they are selling. It's like an art how u persuade your customer. If he successfully create the needs of his prospect and change his mind he will be a successfully sales representative. After asking for an appointment not only help the prospects to utilize thier free time to give responces to the sales representatives but also help the sales representative to give a good presentation infront of the customers.

Nope and not for the reasons that you have mentioned ! I feel todays sales reps are a harrassed lot as the very same availability of technology and shopping ease has made them redundant. Honestly tell me,how many times have you turned away a sales rep at your door ? Its not an easy job in todays world. In fact there lot has been made tougher because of the easy availability of technology and the supermarket syndrodome. A portion of it is due to their own intransigence also. But my symapthies with whoever chooses this profession especially in todays world.

I dont think that these sales representatives make such an impression for pushing the sales, as we saw in the early days of selling V.C by Eureka Forbes these guys had made more issues than selling and they were in the news for all the wrong reasons, more over in this age of internet and other mediums of sales available in plenty I dont think that they are so relevant.

Yes I do agree with you. Instead, modern technological tools made available can, effectively, be used to achieve the targets. The go-between sales man can also change the modus operandi to use the modern tech know-how.

Your second para goes on to say that due to unavailability of technology the sales force were considered as a prime factor for the company to create an awareness about the product in question. But to-day you and me will agree in toto that the market has undergone a sea change thanks to I.T revolution and no body is willing to spend time with any sales person of late.. This of course will hold good only in medical profession and not in other field.

A great sales rep know her customers needs and wishes. She does not try to sell anything. She just predict the needs and wishes of the customer. Customers always want and need to buy, but trying too hard to sell something specific make it hard for the sales rep to listen to the wishes and needs of the customer. Sales reps tend to miss the potential targets because they do not know where to look and aim their effort.
