I m not here to say a NO. It all depends on how people utilize the facilities they can enjoy. Human mentality is like the two sides of a coin, it can go towards any side anytime. Take the case of a mobile phone : After the introduction of mobile phones, connectivity has become so thick that people cannot think of a world without mobile phones today. But there are people who make wrong use of this technology too. Same way Social Media is an excellent tool for expressing one's thought, building a good network, marketing ones business etc. But it can be wrongly used too. It's all we, the humans who make utilize and exploit the technology. So if our thought is clean, definitely Social Media Sites are the best platforms to communicate with people irrespective to geographical boundaries. social net working sites are good as far as it is posetivly utalised. If you are provided a knife for cutting vegetables / fruits and a person stabs some one by it then its the misuse or negative side .It all depends over the use.

Earlier when computer was introduced in India, many people were against it as people thought that computer would do their job automatically and there is no manual requirement anyore. But that concept has changed from everyones mind today. Same way technologies improve day by day and come up with new inventions. Those inventions would be with an objective to facilitate the people. We just need to understand that. Rest all depends from person to person whether to make good use of the technology or not. Regards, Anna George. Web Analyst. Nichepro Technologies. I tell you even if you teach animals to use social networking sites you would see all of them make better use of them than us to multiply themselves and provide a proper balance in nature.

But alas! that is not the case, it is only us, intelligent beings, who can understand the advantages of staying connected through these sites and thats the reason you see yourself seeing my post without even knowing me personally. Bang on! You are using TooStep. You are using a social networking site and therefore if you are on the other side of this debate, then you are just lying.

If it is used properly then social networking sites are boon for the society. You can remain in touch with your near and dear. It can be used for official purposes also. It helps in building contacts with different people. As these are some benefits one can`t disagree with the drawbacks of these sites. In many crimes social networking sites are used as tools. Some sites promote pornography and other filthy things. It depends on us whether we want some useful stuffs from it or irrelevant and vulgar things.

Yes, social networking sites are creating a new trend. They became platforms for political activism. Egyptian and Bahrain revolts against the corrupt and dictatorial govts. are the best examples. As far as Toostep.com is concerned, it is a platform for debating issues of professional interest and contemporary issues. However, a few are abusing the very objective of the site and hijacking the issues. This need to be addressed.

I personally use it in a constructive way and find it quite useful. Infact I could reconnect with some of my old friends after almost 18 years...it was really fascinating. In today's fast-paced world, where "out of side is out of mind", it's a medium to remain connected and never be out of mind.

I fully agreed with Neha. It Has a tremendous potential for creating good network and marketing product or services if used in constructive manner. If used in destructive way, can make our young generations life miserable.

I believe social networking technology has changed our lives for the better, but at a cost. ... While all humans need to feel connected to each other or to some cause, there are also times when we simply want to disconnect, and disconnecting is becoming increasingly hard thanks to social networking technology. ... Today, we experience a feeling of isolation when our Internet connections go down, revealing just how dependent we’ve become on the connective power of the Web.

# 60 million Americans received help with major life issues (975 KB) [21] (changing jobs, finding a new place to live, buying a car, and caring for someone with an illness) from people in their social networks in 2006. These people said social networking sites helped them connect with friends and experts who assisted in their decisions. OfCourse Teens growing up with these sites may not be aware that the information they post is public and that photos and text can be retrieved even after deletion. Consequences from over-sharing personal information include vulnerability to sexual or financial predators and lost job opportunities from employers finding embarrassing photos or comments. Tak care... watu say guys

After the emergence of social media, people are able to react and express their views which can reach the target audience they r focusing on. Earlier knowing the update of people like Marayan Murthy, Abdul Kalam was only a dream, these days people just have to check their twitter sitting at home. So in short, after the introduction of social media and internet , world has come almst to our finger tips. There could be disadvantages also, but it depends on each individuals culture whether to take advantage of the disadvantages. Every technology will have an other side, same way social media also has. Now it is upto people to chose their side. Regards, Anna George. Web Analyst. Nichepro Technologies.. Bangalore. http://www.nichesuite.com

In my opnion , this facility is being abused rather than used ,pertcularly the young generation is misusing it left and right . It would be better if time is alloted for the same i.e. one person can log-in for one hour daily . It would save lot of productive time ,perticularly of students . Further , it should be used for positive purpose .

This is not to say that all of the products of social media are positive. We can all point to negative consequences: bullying, gossip mongering, increased procrastination, etc. Our news media loves to focus on these. Even the positive stories that do run often have a negative or sensationalist angle, such as those who used Twitter to track the California fires. Unfortunately, those who do not understand social media look to the news, see the negative coverage, and declare all social media evil.
