Even the companies are creating their space on sites like linkedin, facebook to get closer to their consumers. Even in corporate world what matters most is your team skills, ability to coordinate. Why not individuals can get connected or send their profile through such sites. Even HRs are promoting the vacancies through these sites in form of their headlines or through groups.

I believe these sites have more potential than job sites, in recent days, when high recession time was going on; more candidates was got the job through networking sites, instead of job portals. Ever thought of logging on to a social networking website to find a job. These sites have become a huge hit with job seekers in India who not only look for career opportunities but also interact with potential employers online. A job portal site has done survey and found that 45 percent of employers use online social networks to research their job candidates, up from 22 percent last year. The June survey, which questioned 2,600 hiring managers, also revealed that another 11 percent are planning to begin screening candidates through social networking websites. According to that survey of more than 4,200 workers, 16 percent of workers have used social networking sites as a part of their job search mix. Indeed, social networking - which is finding favor with marketers - is now catching up with recruiters too. Recruiters use different networking sites to search for candidates from different experience levels. For instance, senior level professionals are present on LinkedIn, while young professionals can be tapped on Facebook and Orkut. Many networking sites also have communities wherein one can post requirements for candidates.

Yes I think Social Network Sites are playing a key role in finding a right candidate or getting into a right job. Being me a recruiter first I personally search the candidates from Netwrok site and then will go for job portals. I think in next few months these network sites will play a vital role in the field of HR. And these sites help to know more about the market condidtions and will teach or give you knowledge in any skills in the form of discussions.

yes these can be prove a good job portal but the site owners would have to take the pain of verifying the validity of the job, if this can be done then siil netting can be proved the all in one solution for each sort of problem.

Well internet is a medium which has changed the way we communicate these days. And posting jobs through a friendly medium provides for both parties to assess each other needs and make decisions. Though the process is somewhat open and holds a chance stepping on the wrong foot but for a good things there's always risk.

Yes even Times of India job portal has come up with this idea where different socio sites are integrated with their site. social networking sites give the all round view of a professional/candidate which can help at the time of interview as there is some hitch in expressing views bcoz candidate has not opened up .

I want to question what Naukri or Monster bring to the table . 1.Search facility 2.Database 3.May be some history or analytics . Can they be as live or responseive as Social networking(Social Media SM) channels , no . Can u get to learn about a person more than what's written on those few pages we call CV on any job site . answer is big NO ....and thats one big feature with SM . As is said a person is known by the company he/she keeps therefore SM is the WAY to GO and i am happy that these job sites are waking up now , trying roll out SM on their channels(not sure though ...abt success) ...they have already Billed enough for not so up to date databases ...interesting these days you get more credit card and resort, insurance sales calls than job calls ...all u need to do is put your mobile # in a high paying bracket on these job sites . fun is all yours' or theirs ...whatever . And this should see change in recruiters world too .They got to be more responsive in a real time world , keep good networks and make sure there is right BUZZ around their brand . Good for everyone including the employers' reason Employees can't fool around anymore .Its' all music 24*7 .... Thanks Sanjay

The job search through SNS(Social Networking Sites) are the latest trend in hiring. Main advantage is doing away with BGC through references(formal), a sheer waste of time & resources. The references through SNS are authenticated hence least verifiable(cost saved to company) Another positive aspect is- a potential employee's interaction ability is known. A caution to HR people - monitor the candidates selected through such SNS because of their addictiability to such sites even during office hours.

The member of social networking sites like linkedin, Facebook etc gives a level of confidence to the recruiter. Such sites also have a provision of recommondations on professional level by peer, boss & customers. This is some times very useful at sr. level recruitment and for getting feedback about candidates.

Absolutely, as HR manager, if you can search the talents in these social networking and pick them up, surely there will has to be threat for job sites. however, there has been few disadvantages over regular job portals, wherein there will be regular updates on job suitability will be made. But Ms. Darshana, I have question to pose can if u have to select few candidates to suit your organizations. what exactly your step towards it.???

We being into Manpower consulting Services, we have started using these SNSs heavily to find out the apt candidate for any role. And SNSs actually work better for Junior Management and Senior Management openings. So I am all in for this motion and support the fact.

Actually social sites help in creating a network. And its the networking that is really the new job portal. So, social sites are a means to the end rather than the end. If the environment of an organisation is good for an employee, then there are fair chances that the friends of this employee will find the environment good for themselves. Hence, recruitment and retention may be better.

I also think same! Considering Social Networking shifted all aspects included from Business to Social Awareness about specific/general concerns! Also being direct mediator one can easily approach to Employer on right time, when there is job requirement in target organization. And even employer has genuine idea about the employee's reaction which he had observed from past interactions and relations with him/her.

Social networking sites may not completely replace job portals, but yes, they can eat into the share of job portals. In fact, already social networking sites are acting as job portals, in addition to many other purposes!!! I support Darshana.

Well in my view .........its still a long way to go for the Social Networking sites ....as the features and the workflow of providing 360degree feedback used by the portals is way ahead..as they are more specific and focussed towards providing quality staff to its clients .

Here's the deal. Social media marketing isn't going to be the cure-all for job placement, but it is an excellent place for businesses to increase their visibility and relationships globally. As time goes on, face to face interactions for hiring will still happen, they will just happen through online video conferencing instead of in person. This will allow us to get the best person for the job - regardless of where he-she reside. There are a few social media programs that are well worth the $100 to learn how to effectively utilize all the facebooks and toosteps available.

I am not in complete agreement. Yes to a certain extent in case of hunting for expats/ where the options are open for professionals across the globe irrespective of their state of origin. More often you end up getting responses after a position has been filled.

Social Networking sites mostly provide the recruiters an option for searching profiles and its mostly used for searching passive candidates who otherwise dont post their profiles in job portals. Job Portals have a better search options and the quality of databases are pretty exhaustive

NOT COMPLETELY ! It s being said on news papers nowadays that companies are using social networking sites such as linkedin ,.etc for recruiting but i think this may not be complete solution. Even job fairs nowadays happen every fortnight in metro cities and think this is better way to recruit . Group of companies at one place V/s plenty of job aspirants FACE TO FACE. But sometimes social networking sites may help if like toostep itself, where we get to observe the positive attitude delivered in terms of words/idea/arguments by participating in debates etc,.. It gives a view for recruiters to see young minds V/s experienced professionals V/s students etc,. and tackle the best brains. And in many colleges where there is no proper placement either in city or rural areas students may get a chance to interact with the industry people by registering on these sites. But recruitment for a freshers especially is better and best through campus placements, job fairs , job portals, newspapers always.

I don’t think so that social Networking sites will take place of job portals. Of course social sites are doing good job and providing the multiple services or functions in one site but they are not dedicated for. In the same manner if required job portals too can change there functionality and provide many services in one site with more and more features which can be helpful and user friendly with lot of facilities like social network and come up in the market………This is what called as competition or Business.

Even if social networkings grow quickly, the road is still long to over run established circuits. It is not so easy to change HR minds. It loof safer to keep were we know it works... One can understand that. But may be I'm too old to understand how things go fast.
