BEfore independence, the major country schools and colleges are ruled by the english peoples. The total commitee authorisation was handled by NUNS, Father, Pope, Preist. The authorities were total against the malpractices and really meant to teach the student even at free of cost. Even now the school are operational with the brand, goodwill and operational model. But the new entrants in the industry segment naming thier their business as convent culture. Are these run by NUNS, Priest, Pope, FAthers ? Why convent ? IS these not the loot to the public for their children to get the neme sake.

We all agree that Education has become a "Profit-making Business" - Conventh (English) Schools are leading the way :

--- High  fees, hidden donation, hefty transportation charges etc.

--- mostly no play grounds, less-spacious rooms, narrow staircases, no cheap canteen and almost closed Computer Labs  etc.

--- new recruit Teachers are poorly paid ( not made known outside), high ratio of student/teacher ( ideally one teacher for every 40 students ) etc.

..................   despite all the above odds, how can we bring back old-days Convent Schools, the Nuns, the Charch-dom, the London-control  ? Should it atall be allowed ?

.................   think London-type will be better ? Has not the International world abandoned them, their orthodox style, Religion-led Edu system ? (Dont know right or wrong) most frequently "The Pope" is being brought under public scrutiny ?

Latest : A news item :

Kolkata: A parent has filed a case against one of Kolkata's best-known schools, La Martiniere for Boys, accusing its principal Sunirmal Chakraborty and several teachers of abetting the suicide of his 13-year-old son.

Class VIII student Rouvanjit Rawla had committed suicide by hanging himself at his home on February 12.

His classmates reportedly told his family he had been slapped, humiliated, harassed for days on end and even caned for indiscipline....  ....  ( copy_pasted )

No, These schools charge high fees, no infrastructure other then buildings. Poor quality of teachers who are not polite to student and branding themselves with the schools. These schools need to be banned from the society.

I myself has been educated in a convent model school and frankly speaking I will say that yes off course convent education makes a child more disciplined and social but the fundamentals of a school doesn't seek a convent model or a general model. The question is the level of imparting knowledge.Today schools have become the sellers and students have become the buyers and the alumni have become the hefty payers for schools welfare. In addition there are donations, money fetched from students in the name of various school activities and in turn the fundamental value of education has been lost somewhere. The teachers have started giving home private tutions be it convent school or other and students are forced to afford them in order to score good. The result is poor teaching in general in the classes.Well schools have obviously acquired the policy of attracting students by introducing various facilities like computer education and other recreational means but complying to the normal education system has been a mere compromise.

In our days convent schools had some systematic approach and I am hailing from kolkata only where my school is 116 years old but now it has lost all its glory because the paradigm has shifted from imparting knowledge to selling business. Convent has become a hub of fake shows, fests and pompous activities which is useless in front of a good education.

A fundamental question will be - do we really need a convent model of education? Do schools really let students learn? Are they able to connect the learning with their sense of being or real life? Is there any place for students to develop into thinking being? Concept of existence and being in students is completely geared to serve the capitalist machinery with focus on mastery of skills thus reinforcing that world is merely a collection of material resources. You can see every board every schools pushing for assessing, and skilling students. Students are being pushed to mad calculative teaching. I wish we had few schools where focus on celebration of rationality focus on life and learning. Not on Money and training.

No today many school that run in the name of convent  and not managed by the priest or Nuns instead managed by politicians and business people whose main focus is towards money and not education.

Thanks for the referal Jyoti,

Convent schools have lost their charm.Due to the emergence of different brand of schools convent schools have also turned into money making. This has affected quality which was the main motto.

The newly named convent schools are becoming an Money making machines in the name of education. The main purpose of formation of convent schools was the provide education to the local faternity and empowering children of the poor & backward family through education so that they lead an good life.

Now the basic idea has just vanished and all even the convent schools started with the basic purpose have been deviated with the objective.
