WE HAVE COME FAR AWAY FROM OUR CULTURE AND STILL GOING FAST IN THE WRONG DIRECTION TO BE MODERN .IT IS HIGH TIM WE REALISED THE VALUES OF OUR TRADITION,CULTURE,FAMILY BONDAGE,SOCIAL HABITS AND START FOLLOWING THEM IN THE INTEREST OF OUR OWN SELVES.

" I feel , we are getting westernised in the process of getting modernised. modernisation. The people in U.K & USA have got frustrated with their current way of life and are trying to adopt the Indian Culture. By following the western way of life , we are sacrificing peace of mind and social binding amonst the people."

Thanks for the referral Dr.Ali. Sorry I cant support you in this debate........ the reason being simple... I fully believe in one thing and that is a socio cultural binding on a human being keeps his day to day activites honest and pure. For me a person who does not has a culture is an uncivilised person...(regret on this comment if anyone is hurt),and uncivilised means he/she is not going towards modernisation but towards the black hole or a burmuda triangle or a mysterious place where he /she does not find anyone with him/her but is alone...no ethics, no values is the result of evolution of culture...these are the reasons we find to satisfy ourselves as a constantly growing and changing culture......there is some solid base to our culture which need to be kept solid...ideas like these can create a crack to it...as water if constantly drips on a concrete member creates a depression and results into weakening of the concrete. Modernisation this word came from the west as we consider them as modern countries....can anyone explain what is the culture of USof A, do they have ethics..and values...I am working with those people and they find India as a place for serinity,Peace of mind ...Y? If they had cultures their wont be so many un-ethical practices, uncultural,un-civilised bahaviours seen in there. I fully agree with our members and especially Sayan...very well said.

as the world becomes more and more of a cultural village, the local culture will get subsumed in to the global culture. some amount of local culture will be lost in this assimilation. It should be noted that that loss is also part of the global as well as the local culture. The global culture gains a local ethos and the local culture gains the prestiege of havingf contributed to the global one. A good example is the acceptance of the word GURU in the english language worls wide. All this is natural progression of progress resulting form growth.

Indains are well known for learning all of bad things and miniscule of good from every where. We have modernised the way we worship god- we decorate the idols with modern decorative items, we use loudspeakers every where as if the god is deaf, we use electricity as if god is blind and cant see in darkness, but the god we worship wont speak and dont use Ear plugs. We store wealth in Temples but not use it for building schools, houses and hospitals for the needy and infrastructure essential for economic development. We build Kalyanamantaps to show a way on how to showoff your wealth and spend illgotten money, but not build hopsitals We learn fashion from every where to show we are modernised. Our girls - hope a day will come they walk naked on the street, hope a day will not come our boys will chase girls like dogs. We build modern houses with expensive floor tiles, wall tiles, and fittings, but with out any natural light and ventilation. We keep our houses clean and tidy by throwing garbage infront of neighbours house. We buy vehicles pnly to show our wealth, but either dont use them or if we use dont follow traffic rules, We build footpaths and every year re do the surface with new things, but only to allow the shopkeepers to use them as their dispaly area and we walk on the road. We cultivate habits let me only survive at the cost of everyone else All in the name of modernisation. God (If he is there) save us.

It's the most bizzare comment I have ever found made by one in this topic. "That because of clients, we need to leave few cultural things and if we want to be developed we need to sacrifice" There are many modern and developed people on earth who can put many modern Indian beneath their shoes but they not necessarily think leaving own culture and development go hand in hand. Common I visited 8 countries and few of them non western and they are developing fast and they are not at all and they keep their culture along with development. In Africa they dress in their national dress on last working day and they proudly display it, and we respected it. In Arab they proudly wear robe as fashionable clothing and rest of the people looks dumb among them. In France they proudly do their business in their language and others need to learn it to work with them. In Japan they proudly introduce their style into business. They don't take up spoon and fork to replace their chopsticks even in western countries. So when you say, to be developed we need to sacrifice few things, you are actually reflecting a well crafted colonized mentality that everybody laugh at when they see you following it. We can blend our culture with our development only if we have confidence in what we are doing. We will throw ourselves and our culture to dustbin when we want to achieve things that we are not capable of. Be modern and developed in what you do--not in what you loose. So have confidence in what you are capable of and world will follow you!!!

to wear good or to eat in big branded hotels is not originally modernization ,but we are just blindly following to each other without thinking the actual means of modernization .and unfortunately we are going far and far from our rich culture

Modernization means updating the existing structure or not useful one. But it has nothing to do with our rich culture that should not be destroyed at any cost. The term modernization relates to only the business development and production process & manufacturing and it should be construed in this way only. One may have modern education or he may dress well but he should not sacrifice his culture. Hence modernization helps to improve in technology, knowledge, educational pattern, of course, other way of life style, but please remember, not to deteriorate the culture.

yes, i agree with this statement. we are living in modernization age but with wrong perception. we change our whole cultural aspect & basic norms, while the modernization means to modify the values in a positive way thay doesn't affect our culture and suitable for the modern era.

We find lots of changes in day to day life style of today's youth. they R moving towards late night parties in pubs discos etc. Girls prefer to wear minis. This today's culture so called "MODERNIZATION" is leading towards premarital sex, which should not be happen in our country.
So, friends tis is the good topic to discuss what we call "MODERNIZATION" is GOOD OR NOT. Plz share your valuable thinking on this.

We follow our culture, but made to know of other things in life. Are we not buying sophistigated medical equipment for use? Does it mean that we are loosing culture? It is the way of living. Sharing ours with others & others with us. Knowing things, altogether, does not loose culture. Fear of loosing comes, when the mental framework collapse. By cross selling, you see so many thing that an ordinary man come to know now. Otherwise, he is unaware of it or is deprived of such chance.

You are to the point Dr. Ali. The culture is evolveing with the time take for example the dresses that used to be worn during Ramayan days has changed. There are many other things you will be able to corelate once you think of the past culture of India as a whole and now. So it is right to say the base of culture is same but it is changing with time or evolving with time.

I think all are not leaving the culture. Still we can able to see the professionals with our culture even if they are heavily influenced by the modernization. We are not getting away from our culture. For some reason, we are trying to going along with world's tech development

I guess no...... If we need to be modern we need to give up few of our cultures. Today every business is going global and we need to work with clients in abroad. So we should know how to behave in their society. So for that we need to change few ways how we live. If we want become a developed country we need to sacrifice few things.... in that culture is also one.....
