The current valuation of facebook at $50 billion by a leading investment banking firm speaks for itself. Social networking today is just not the means of connecting to friends but also a dynamic platform to shape careers and build commercial relations. Today the web is not just for individuals but also for corporates to reach out for their consumers and prospective employees.

The world is moving towards network centric organistion. All work is best accomplished on the net. But the problem is that network centric does not automatically mean facebook. Most of the day2day work we do, like paying our bills, train/plane/theatre reservation are all through the net. Google is a primary search engine. They are adding a lot of Googleapps to move it in the Network direction.

As far as you and I are concerned, there is only one fundamental difference between Facebook and Google. They are both in the business of accruing monstrous amounts of data about its users -- but they both have very different sets of data. Facebook only knows what we explicitly say about ourselves -- our age, our hometown, our favorite TV show. Our Facebook profile represents who we aspire to be; Schindler's List might not actually be your favorite film, and you might have only read the first page of that Nietzsche book, but who's to know? Google, on the other hand, can only implicitly deduce facts by our browsing habits. Google might not know our exact age, but it knows a lot of things that we would never tell other people, such as our late-night browsing habits. Google knows that we like to spend hours looking at stupid pictures of cats and videos of pandas sneezing. Google knows that our favorite film is actually American Pie. In other words, Facebook knows who we want to be, while Google knows who we actually are. It's when you join those two halves that everything slots into place. That's when the singularity is reached; that's when superhuman intelligence will indelibly alter the landscape of humanity. Don't worry, One will buy the other! :) Until then Let's argue! Cheers! agreed that the "social network " made a revolution and facebook does deserve credit. However let us not have a narrow vision about Google and the Google-centric web . There is a lot lot more to the web than "social " .Be it maps across all devices ,shared and updated in real time , perhaps the refrigator knowing the contents in it and telling us recipes all connected to the web and delivering some or the other app ,is something that will the tech of this decade , And remember whenever we say "connected to the web " Google will have its eyes on it and this is precisely where the Android platform is placed .
