All curruptive practices in Government must be stopped. People will always feel government should provide more facilities. How ever our population is so huge, what ever facilities are provided by the Government will always be short. However if curruption is stopped then we can use public finance effectively & in better manner.

thanks Baalu for referal.our first failure in becomming responsible citizens starts with staying away from excercising franchise during polling.especially urban persons.it's a shame that only 30 to 40% will cast thier votes during polling and rest remains silent and blames Govt.for every thing.there may be few cases of exceptions, but what about majority?unless each pay Taxes honestly and vote to choose right candidate we can'b be responsible citizens.

Dear Mr. Kumar , When you say we , I do not know about whom you are speaking. I can only speak about myself , and I am fairly sure that I am not part of the 'we' that you speak of. First and foremost , in any organization , responsibility comes to those who are willing to shoulder it. It is very rare that responsibility is thrust on an unwilling individual. Today , our government consists of individuals who have made politics their life ; in such a situation , are we not correct in demanding that they give their best ? After all , they wanted to be leaders , and believing them , we have made them our leaders. What have they done with the power and responsibility that has been given to them ? 99 % of India's ills are due to the government ; each individual citizen is certainly responsible to do something , but to blame this country's problems on each and every citizen is like blaming a family's problems on the children instead of the parents. Yes , Indians don't spit abroad ; the reason is not out of patriotism or shame ; the reason is law enforcement. Indians don't try bribing policemen abroad because they'll be arrested and put behind bars. In foreign countries laws are strictly enforced ; even Prince Harry has been booked for drunken driving ! Why has the government not been able to do this in India ? Is the common man to be blamed for this ? Give credit where credit is due ; I would say the common Indian is a very admirable soul , given the injustice and misery that is part of his every day life. Go to some African countries or some of the Arab countries , and then you will see that India is a wonderful country. The pity is that we like flagellating ourselves - "ghar ka murgi dal barabar" !

Thanks for invite Manoj, I fully endorse your views that citizens must do their part of role responsibly. Sincerely hope, you will agree this rule as well applies to people who misuse your taxes for self-servicing. In fact looking at the costs being paid and return achieved demands a lot higher questioning power with a citizen. If as Indians, we have the longest list of missed opportunities and carry tag of most misused resources, it is certainly not by accident. It conveys people entrusted with higher responsibilities were either inept, inefficient or corrupt, how else can we answer that in 6 decades of self-rule, instead of provisioning the all the citizens with food, water, electricity or opportunities, the governments still treats majority as beggars and not citizens. Who is this AAM AADAMI? if constitution is getting due respect It is high time we begin to understand " higher the gains, higher the responsibility and higher the punishment. " Applying the same rule of law to the misuser and misused may not get us anywhere.

I think part of the problem is how we have been educated in our system. I say that because Moral Science is an optional subject in schools. It brings to my mind what the famous journalist Malcolm Muggeridge siad, "when there is lack of morality and fear of accountability, there are only two ways to live, It is either Megalomania or Erotomania, love of pleasure or love of power. Money affords us both. The first step I think is to remove the idea of job protection of all government postings and then make the target of corruption charges guilty until proven innocent. Implement strong moral education at all levels. Maybe then we can see a bit of a change.

Corruption is not a one sided thing, it takes two for a person to become corrupt. One is the criminal and the other who condones it the accomplice. Having said that, the rampant corruption is not JUST because the citizens expect too much from the government but because the Government itself is not willing to clean up the system. Why not make extremely strict laws that would cancel the citizenship of the corrupt man and award a minimum of 15 years to capital punishment for corruption at any level? Is it too tough for the Government to do that? A former DGP and paedophile is now looking at 6 months of imprisonment for molesting a teenager and driving her to suicide. It seems we have a weak government even weaker laws and an equally irresponsible citizen.

We need to definitely practice before we tell the government to implement something. Instead of blaming the government for not installing dustbins, we should not litter the roads outrselves. However, there are some issues, wherein the government needs to take a stand, such as building roads. Hence it is a two pronged approach that we need to adopt.

Thanks for the referral Mr.S.Balu. I accept with your view. Sky is the limit for people to come up and the available opportunities can be properly utilized instead of expecting everything from the government. The real hapiness is derived from what we give to others and not from what we get from others. If we take a family, you know how it is managed by the parents despite all difficulties. Similarly the government has to manage the entire affairs for different states. Always plus & minus will be there. Every Indian is part of the whole system.Life is to struggle and not a bed of rose. Struggling gives more maturity to people.

I think we are not at all a responsible Citizen that is why our expectation is always high from the Government whether it is related to building to new road, garbage cleaning or reducing of oil prices etc. Just by paying taxes we think our work is done and the rest is government's job. But where are we standing now and what are we doing for up keeping the society. All Indians are not paying taxes, we through garbage here and there, we spit at the place of our liking, we waste energy as we think that is our right just by paying the price of that but we don't think of conserving energy for future. And after doing all the unethical things we want the government to respond in the positive way. It s possible always to do so by them. No. So we need to practice 1st then we can expect.

It is the responsibility of the givernment to provide good governance. We are not paying tax to create more and more Kings of yester years. CItizens responsibility is to pay tax and also control their representative, whom they voted. we are failing because we dont vote and we dont control our representative after we vote and allow him to become a King and rule us. How much of Parliments time is used for making a good policy to provide good governance, good budget to eradicate pverty through providing good infrastructure, good law to provide justice and bring in equity among people today?

Thanks for the invitation Mr. Manoj We Indians have a big problem, I ME & MYSELF. When we talk about the government we tend to forget that they are the same people whom we brought to power, if they are so very corrupt why did we choose them? And if they are still corrupt why are we bringing them back again and again. In Rang De Basanti there is a dialogue-NO COUNTRY IS PERFECT, WE HAVE TO MAKE IT PERFECT. Let me ask myself first what have I done today to contribute for the growth of my country? Oh yes, I have done well today I threw some papers on the road, after smoking I threw my cigarette out of the car; I jumped a red light just because I was getting late. I did make my contribution today, but as usual it was in the negative direction. If I can’t control my own self and make any positive contribution to the country, I don’t think I am to blame the government or anyone else for the negative aspects.

I agree that we need to be first more responsible citizens. We are all too ready to practice corruption to get the job done. However, corruption or anything else that is wrong with our government for that matter exists because of an under performing government. Somebody once told me that in the constitution it says "it is the privilege of the citizen to pay tax" If that is indeed the case, we have exercised the privilege to a fault even considering the minority of law abiding citizens!! It is a chicken or the egg situation. Which came first? Clean up the government or clean up our sense of responsibility so that we are both better government and better citizens? Like I said it is a catch 22. God only knows which will emerge first. There is an old proverb that whether Ram rules or Ravan rules, people will suffer!!! Slowly i am becoming cynical enough to start believing in that!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Mr Vinod, Each citizen picks their set of responsibility in choosing their respective professions in a democracy, obeys law and pays taxes as a duty. this as well applies on classes who go on to behave as if above law of the land and routinely disrespect the OATH of serving the nation an its citizen. of course we can expect something back from the govt as we bring them to power.. BUT it is also important to do something for the country If or not the govt has any intention to do good to the country.. its true that the interest shown in various protestations against the govt is not shown in performing any duty wat a citizen ought to do to a country.. initiatives in doin any good task for the society is very less in our country. jus for an example..we are used to the term "mufth" so bad that we expect at least something back after gettin an ordinary soap from a shop to a big car from a automobile showroom.. from gas stove to rice.. from color tv to computers..wat wil happen if al these free items are no more tomorow?? why don we say no to these free items? so..........instead of expecting things from the govt if we expect more from ourselves and make the society as u wanted it will be a really good citizenship.

For Security purpose we blame police and security forces but never try to secure ourself. Improving ourself will be an auto action for improving the country. We are never taking anything on over part. for example every individual want that government should take care of his security but he never try to secure himself. We are always asking what country have given to us but never thinking what we have given to country. We must remove this idea from our mind and should act positevely. If we will be careful, country will be safe and sound. We must not espect everything from others and we should try to give it first.

Let me put a speech delivered by our former president Dr. A.P.J Abdul kalam as my participation, Please go through eventhogh it is little long. I (Dr. Kalam) was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For her, you and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.. Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance. Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours. YOU say that our government is inefficient. YOU say that our laws are too old. YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage. YOU say that the phones don’t work, the railways are a joke, The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination. YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits. YOU say, say and say.. What do YOU do about it? Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name – YOURS. Give him aface – YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don’t throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road(equivalent of Mahim Causeway orPedder Road ) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity… In Singapore you don’t say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn’t dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai . YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah . YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, ’see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.’ YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop,’Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so’s son. Take your two bucks and get lost.’ YOU wouldn’t chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand. Why don’t YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don’t YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ? Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay , Mr. Tinaikar , had a point to make. ‘Rich people’s dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,’ he said. ‘And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels? In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan . Will the Indian citizen do that here?’ He’s right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.

Whats wrong in expecting from the Govt? After all we are the ones who elect them to power. If we were to provide all the solutions then why have them in power? We pay taxes. Its for the Govt to provide the requisite infrastructure. Agreed that we lack initiative. But this has emerged due to the GOvt dragging its feet on most of the projects. Project delays result in huge cost overruns. Protest and face the brunt of the brute forces. Shortest route is not the best route always.
