Are the web users are lazy??

Nobody reads a terms of service agreement or a site’s privacy policy. Too much text, too little time - I 100% sure one just clicked the ‘Agree’ button, or at the very most gave the text a quick scan or glance. they skip over the list and consequently not even be fully aware of the website’s rules and regulations.

People do not have patience to wait. When they see that a page is taking time to load they just feel that page does not exists or page has not of my type (for which I am searching) content. "Angoor khate hain". Even if people do not have any work and they just surf in the net when time comes to give a comment in a blog ,they also do not do that even if they like that posting.

Even more everybody is aware of short words like: WFM(wait for min), TC,GN, CUL

What r u thinking??

I agree wholeheartedly. Most web-surfers expect the information to be handed to them with either just a few clicks (which is why a good website never requires 4 or 5 clicks to reach your goal) or with just a small selection of words.

On a google-result, usually one of the website in the top-is used to obtain the information. This information is not checked for accuracy. Not taking the time to read the document and cross-reference it with other information is a definition of 'being lazy' in my book.

About the short words: abbreviations are an efficient way of communicating. Sign-language is the absolute top in this.

ADDITION:

Impatience is not the same as being lazy. Not willing to wait for the page to load has more to do with the site-builder that with the user. If anything, impatience would be a sign of not being lazy since it requires more work to find another page holding the same data than to wait for this page to load.

But I do not think so, They are not lazy. As they may be impatient, they do not like the site if they have to stay for more than 10 secs. Some times people search for some important and urgent topics so they can not wait for long time. And web can not change one person's personality. If he is energetic means he will remain energetic.

well a very sure support from me in affirmative.

Web users are lazy, though many would deny it on the face but its true.

web users just hate to get off their chairs but the real reason is not the users mentality.

its not because the user is lazy that they prefer net; its because they use net that they become lazy gradually.

u just dont need to get off your chair. booking tickets, knowing the market trends or even the fashion trends, talking with your friends or your colleagues, news, anything you want it is there.

so as it always is, its just the extra convenience that makes more lazy, and now there might be no honest denials that we are very much an addict to it.

But its the way the web pages are designed that makes us lazy!

Its got to be user friendly to ENGAGE the surfer! It has to increase his level of curiosity. And everything is at a CLICK! so browsing today is actually a HABIT forming thing. You browse out of habit and when you are seeking!

When you have decided to download a particular thing of interest, reading the T & C of the same is of no great importance as you have DECIDED to download! So its not really being lazy then! But as Mr Aries says not taking time to check the accuracy of the content is BEING LAZY!

The definition of a web user is anyone who uses the internet so that encompasses everyone not just internet savvy people.

Yes web users are lazy and Randi has put it perfectly there, users are very impatient and if the page takes too long to get loaded they hop to the next one...so yes web users are lazy.

I agree that the average web user is lazy. When designing a website, one needs to keep in mind that the site has to be as user friendly as possible since the average person wants quick and easy sites to visit. There are those web surfers that will spend hours looking for interesting things on the internet but for the "Average Joe" doesnt want to spend time looking for a contact phone number or where a specific item is located. The faster the page loads the better since most people have a 7 second wait time for page loading. As a web designing professionl, I know that my clients want their websites to be very easy for the user.

i too agree with Dennis and others that web users are lazy and they dont want to wait for a minute to authenticate what they are going through is right stuff or not and that's why i guess one sees so many unread emails in their mailbox, because they don't even know when and where they registered in the first place on a site, it has also got to do with impatience but yes web users are lazy.

YES they are, in my view "One may be the most energetic and inquisitive person in the ‘offline world’, but he/she becomes impatient and lazy when he/she goes on line. He/she curse slow load times, hates having to register his/her details. Specially when they see some registration bottom in the blog comments. "

Not at all.. I believe they are more conservative and proactive to explore and do things right in front of them..!

They can only be slow in case:
1) If the Web connection is slow.. or
2) If they are Govt employees (most of them) !!

They are NOT necessarily lazy.
There is another side to the story. It is an issue of relativity.
If we are waiting for an elephant to arrive, we might be tolerant with 15 minutes of late arrival. However, we might NOT be tolerant with 15 SECONDS of late arrival if we are waiting for a super-speed train.

If you are signing up for a new account with Yahoo for example, your acceptance of terms is of limited significance as there are thousands ALREADY members at the website in addition to the fact that you need to use Yahoo services no matter what.
Another example that we are not lazy is that we spent some of our time commenting on your debate which is about a non-fatal issue.

Finally, there is no need for us to read the penal code to be good citizens. Our parents taught us to be good and stay out of trouble which is enough to stay away form any possible application of the penal code-

Web users are not lazy. It must be noted that one sometimes has to spend enough time on the web to find exactly what they are looking for. As one contributor said people who use the web are smart I fully support this.

I think Mr.Davinder is right. If web users were lazy then the various sites would not have generated so much traffic and there wouldn't have been increase in the number of internet users as well. Its just that sometimes links on the sites take too much time to download but nevertheless web users are not so impatient to not wait for it to get downloaded.

I would say that we cannot generalize all the web users in a single category...some are very active and read all the instructions that are supposed to be read and some users just don't care about it & press the finish button. They all have their own way of surfing or browsing internet but to ensure that one is aware of all the details of a particular website or something...one must read all the instructions before proceeding further.

We cannot say that the web users are lazy .... and they dont wait as they dont have the enogh time to wait for something .. they are much keen to know abt something and are more active , more intelligent and much connected to real world .

Davinder

If this argument is related to those who are lame users then they shld be considered lazy. But those who are completely in web culture, who want info at the tip of their fingers, then NO they cannot be lazy. And if the users know intricate info abt web and have choices to go to when some page takes hell lot of time then its obvious they will jump to other optional sites bcoz webbers hate it when they dont get info immediately, bcoz they r not ready to lose interest in their concerned subject. Its mind game afterall, & the more restless & faster to extract the best info, the better.

LAZY and web users !!! Not at all... Actually they are more efficient then others. They are busy like a bee... never stuck to a single webpage for long time... jumping and hopping to next page... collecting the required materials form that site and again jumping to another page...

Impatient does not mean you are lazy, nor overlooking the Terms of agreement makes you so..  !!! I actually feel people are more active and busy so they are not able to go through all details and by using acronims they are saving their time.
ACTUALLY THERE ARE TOO MANY THINGS TO DO, IN TOO LESS TIME.

No..web user's are not at all lazy..as a strong browser using person, I can say that wen ever u have a doubt or just curious to know abt something..u go to google ..enter the thing and find it out..this itslef explains that web user's are not lazy..u dont keep a doubt in ur mind for more than seconds..eager to find out the result..maybe the terms and conditions of the site or user creation are not read bcoz..they r too lenghty and also 90% contain the same matter.

If it's used only for speed of work and finding information faster, in fact it increases the efficiency of the user. I don't think it's going to affect any way.

No, they are not lazy. Impatience comes when you have plenty of options. As per reading terms and conditions, I think no body ever reads any terms and conditions, be it a web application or a desktop one.

Again when a page arrives lately, a web user doesnot know where the fault is. Is it in his system or in the ISP or in the server. They also does not know if it will arrive or simply show any error. This uncertainity is frustrating. And that leads to impatience.

Also you have comparing option in web. For a certain purpose there are innumerable web sites available to you. So you can compare them in terms of speed, look and feel etc. And when you can compare you try to think if that site run so faster why not this site.. etc.
