We are hugely dependent on fossil fuels for our energy needs. Even this dependence is flourishing day-by-day with economic development and population growth. The resources are depleting fast and a research shows that the fossil fuels will run out by 2040s. There is no doubt well before that time-limit there'll be a great conflict (even wars) between Governments if they 'll depend upon the fossil fuels for their growth prospects.

Thanks to the Global Warming issue that let us to somewhat recognize the ill-effects of fossil fuels on environment (apart from their quantity for future) and led us to switch over to alternative/clean energies.

Considering both challenges (The Global Warming and Depleting resources) it is not possible to stop the crisis if we are hesitant to switch over to newer/alternative energies as a whole and running with business-as-usual mindset . . !

Alternative energies are replacing the fossil fuels all over the world. As the issues related to global warming are getting importance, countries are trying to reduce their use of fossil fuels. Alternative energy resources like solar, wind, thermal energy are gaining importance in the current situation. Soon the alternative energy resources will replace the fossil fuels.

Although we started working out with Alternative energies like Solar, Wind, Tidal, hydrogen powers etc there is still a major dependence on the crude-oil for almost all of a country's needs. The governments are discussing, advising, debating about Green development but not implementing it visibly. Most of the people are still not aware of the future energy dependence, the ill-effects of fossil fuels. Even there is awareness there is no rapid change in their lives towards alternative energies because of a lack of good encouragement/enforcement from the respective governments. If we still in business-as-usual way of development, there 'll be a day we'll suffer a lot with bearing even $10,000 per barrel of crude oil and an over 2-degree rised temperature devastating our environment . . . !

Agree with Padmaja....technology on non conventional energy sources is now matured...NANO technology is playing major role to reduce its size and increase effectiveness....world will soon ride on these sources... wheather fossil fuel available or not

Interesting debate umashankar, don't worry the alternative energies will replace the fossil fuels. Nowadays everyone is  realizing the importances of the energies and are looking for alternative energies. According to me solar energy will be the future of energies. Every things invented today have the option of operating in solar energy this is because of keeping the future wants and needs in mind. So I think solar energy will replace everything.
