Now a days everybody very oftenly use ATM machines of any of the bank or several banks, in earlier days I found no much complaints againt the operation, break down etc regarding ATMs. But now it has become common that ATM's do work or under reppair situations, what as a customer of the bank can do when such situation arises.

It is true that most of the banks has got arrangements between them for sharing of ATM's for their customers advantage, but now a days you may vitness that ATM's here and there not in operation due to unknown reasons, and we do not know what is to be done for obtaing cash. We will have run after other ATM's or some times thare may not be any ATM if it is a moderate town or a village.

In such circumstances we have no other alternative other than complaining, RBI issued a recent circular stating

The use of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) has been increasing in the country. We have been receiving complaints from members of the public that at many ATM locations the telephone numbers of help desk/ contact persons are not displayed causing difficulties in lodging complaints. Customers using other bank ATMs are also unclear as to the bank with whom complaints on account of failed ATM transactions are to be lodged. The matter has been examined by the Reserve Bank of India and it has been decided that the following information should be displayed prominently at the ATM locations:

I. Information that complaints should be lodged at the branches  where customers maintain account to which ATM card is linked.
II. Telephone numbers of help desk/contact persons of the ATM owning bank  to lodge complaint / seek assistance.

We there fore can prefer a complaint based on the circular over the informations provided in the ATM or directly to RBI if required.

It is not unnatural for breakdown for any machine. The more ATMs increase, the more possibility it occurs of its crash. But that cannot be made a point of complaint since I see crashing cases occurs very rarely.
