In the largest act of philanthropy by an Indian, Wipro chairman Azim Premji will give about Rs 8,846 crore ($2 billion) to improve school education in India. Other donations to charitable institutions by any person or corporation in India pale in comparison to this massive endowment.

Do you expect other corporate honcho's do the same

Yes. There should be a step taken by all the other's. Like Mukesh Ambani being India,s richest man should also do something like this. As this is for the future of the Indian education. In future we can see India as one of the most literate country. So this should be done by the common man also if he can do so.

This way of donating money for the education is a good way. But this wealth would lead to a scam again. As we know what kind of minister's India is got. As all the high profile people will show it in their income tax paid as donation even though it a small amount given, they would file it as a huge amount so they are benefited.

I think instead he could have started some more good schools that provide free education to develop necessary skills, because most Indian Institutes give more emphasis on knowledge rather skills.

This should be encouraged and should not be looked at negatively. Nothing more noble than this.

This is a pioneering step by Mr. Premji. I am sure a number of reach people would follow him. The single biggest deficiency of Indian democracy is low level of literacy and awareness. Benovolence towards this cause is an act of statemanship! I salute Mr. Premji.

yes, monitory support is always required by the underprivileged students.Funding has to be meticulously monitored by an scrupulous and authentic institution in order to curtail the manipulations and such good cause should encourage the deserving candidates as beneficiaries at large.

This money should be made available directly to the grass-root organisations with control and accountability. Government or the politicians should be kept away in executing the projects. Even if the Government pool their funds allocated for "Sarva Sikhsha Abhyan", "Navodaya Schools", and funds meant for "Millenium Development Goal", "skill development fund allocated to CII initiatives, the total funds required to educate our children would be sufficient to cater to for another 15 years. The education system should be such that need not follow the ubiquitous "McCaulay" pattern being offered by NCERT, CBSE and other State Education bodies, but should be oriented towards developing traditional patterns that exist as per the geographical condition - "holistic development" model should be drawn based on the Vedantic Principles, Preachings available from all the prophecies, and also to develop scientific temper in the minds of very bright children of this country!
