These days, we can see a lot of entrepreneurs in our society which is because of the increase in the number of B-school in the past few years. Most B-schools programs have an extensive emphasis on fund raising, but with little understanding of what it takes to get a venture off the ground.

Most of the times we can see teachers motivating students to become entrepreneurs in the outside world, as their focus in the course will be on building self-employment or family businesses rather than big companies.

So users, do you think B-schools are doing right thing by emphasizing on Entrepreneurship? share your views on this

B-schools are taking a very good step by making student self dependant by showing them the path of entrepreneurship. By making young entrepreneurs they will help in generating more business opportunities for India, increase its economy and create more employment opportunities than being self employed under someone else.

While the pace of change is slow, many professors of entrepreneurship at a diverse range of business schools have adopted their curriculum to the realities of the modern day world where credit is tight and equity elusive for the early stage entrepreneur. As a result, b-schools launch students into the real world with unrealistic expectations, which i guess will lead to failure in future. So, than emphasizing them towards entrepreneurship, first one need to show them the realistic picture of know's & how's of fundraising & how to get that initial investment for their project untill then one should not emphasize students towards entrepreneurship.

Everyone has a right to live a comfortable life. What B-schools are doing is actually good it makes a student realise what talent he/she has what he/she is capable of and it also help ignite the fire in other students making them to work hard to want to reach to the higher standards. The students are as much as capable to do what the successful entreprenuers have done and much more.

Young and educated if supported to become Entrepreneurs will be more effective and far fetching on long run and in turn the management school with creating value for themself.

Armed with management degree they have knowledge of the latest trends and business accumen and probability of success will be more and if they are successful they will be able to create jobs in the market for others and if not the fall back will be getting employed as they are qualified.

Society is accepting and respecting Entrepreneurs and lets note that SME's are very important for the growth and development of the nationals and have been contributing a lot in the business envirnoment. Creating a big company is further matter of time or we can say "Best amongst the Equals"will shine and become the super star.

I strongly belive that the trend of developing Business leaders will take time as the Business school can equip with business management tools/techniques but the business intricites are learnt in market place not in class rooms.

Direction is right but it is tough and rough long way to go for the Young Entrepreneurs and to become successful businessmen.

The B schools on one side are trying to create business leaders who at some point of time are not just to manage others companies but also to manage themselves in a business environment if given an opportunity to excel for themselves.

The old saying of study in the business school is to get a good package in a MNC was common saying.

Now with the advancement CEO's start putting their legs in the shoes at a much earlier in life. this is encouragingevenif they do not venture into enterprising initially tolearn th enuances of active business.

However if you see the CEO's of US or western countries are far younger in life compared to CEO's of Indians. So We have to encourage the younger generations to be CEO's as early as possible to facet he nuances of business leadership.

We have to accept that small mistakes would be committed by them to reach up like any other business magnates.

hence the present environment has too many opportunities and its better to give lots of opportunities to enterprising and encourage many o do something not only to raise buds but also to learn the business skills and leadership which the main key issue.

Kind regards

Yes,the B-Schools as well as the management gradutes are on the right track. They create more job opportunities. In the recent past more opportunities and easy finance are available to put the things track. Taking up the enterpreneurship is not easy job one should have guts/skill to face the odds. The B-Schools should train the students dealing with critical phases and the challenges to face in the inital stages

If B Schools are trying to develop new entrepreneurs then it is defnitely a good move and should be supported.  But word of caution is are they really equipping them with right tools?  As we know most of the cropping breed of B Schools, Universities lacks in terms of quality education which is a real concern.

The future of India's youth is not in slogging for somebody else but looking into themselves as entrepreneurs and taking their own decisions.... New ideas still demand respect and can convert the start into success...

Yes nothing is as good as entrepreneurship. While talking about risk due to lack of practical experience than we aren't talking to form a big firm for everyone. Person should take risk according to their profile. And also work tells you how to do it!

B Schools are taking right step in bringing this to the right people in right forum. This helps students focus on the key area they are interested rather than working in companies what they offer to do. Enterpreneurship helps in generating more business opportunities and more new ways of working and new opportunities to the country.

I think B-Schools are doing right.

Yes. B schools are doing the right job.

 Benefits to Indian Economy:

  1. There is tremendous liquidity available in the market which is not being invested. Instead it is lying in the banks. More entrepreneurs mean more money will be brought in the market.
  2. More businesses also mean more job opportunities.
  3. This will finally benefit Indian Economy as will generate more revenue than before.
  4. This might also be responsible for more exports and less imports resulting in generation of more foreign exchange.

 Benefits to Individual:

  1. Proper use of knowledge gained in B schools like use of funds and resources, use of manpower and assets etc.
  2. More gains than service sector thus leading to better standard of living.
  3. Better standard of living again resulting into more expenditure giving rise to more demand and business.

There are actually many more indirect benefits which can be enlisted.

Good Debate to start, Namrata. Catching young and nurturing them to be an entrepreneur is a very nice thing the B-schools have started doing. Few facts that supports my answer are 1. A quite senior professional I know had just attended similar entrepreneurial semester-based (running into three years) program at Havard, 2. Liquid cash is in abundance these days and this is just one step to streamline it, 3. Most young professionals have out-of-box ideas and what better than that age to test it, 4. Fresh from education with fresh idea and tons of moolah, isn't this a deadly mix for sure success and then lastly JUST IN CASE IT DOESN'T SUCCEED TO ITS POTENTIAL, JUST SHUT DOOR AND HUNT FOR A JOB - with the core thought of Hey, you've got an MBA to support you.

Why not even the entire focus is given for enterpreneurship.

Earlier priciple was " You Earn while You Learn"

Let it be " Be the BOSS of your own and win the world"

How long one will continue with a job? CEOs resign and start as a social worker, whole sale vegetable sellers, rent a cycle type enterpreneurship today.

There's nothing bad in it. All we need to see the other side of the coin too that we often ignore. Why do we work - to earn money, maintain the satus,livelihood...

This give immense pleasure, satisfaction and motivate to do more then why not this way. Lets continue with it.

Emphasis on entrepreneurship is good but not if it is the sole focus.

That said we must remember that entrepreneurship generates employment for others and so socially it is a good emphasis. But as you point out fund raising is not the sole aspect of entrepreneurship training. It takes a lot more than mere money to succeed as an entrepreneur. Other skills should also be emphasised.

Fundamentally, the emphasis is good.

Instead of going with  the mad rush for investment banking or marketing jobs in MNC's , entering into entrepreneurship is a bold move .We need more businesses and down to earth innovations in all aspects of our lives .  Along with this more focus should be upon NGO 's as well . Working in a start-up  teaches you all aspects of handling a business from every angle possible and also adds professionalism into a person .

All in all this is a bold move by the B- schools .

Some years ago, as soon as I faced a new batch of students I asked all those who wanted to become entrepreneurs to raise their hand. Without fail, there were many hands raised indicating that in our society there are many who aspire to become entrepreneurs. I agree with many on the other side of the debate that entrepreneurship is a good thing as it creates jobs. But then entrepreneurship is not everyone's cup of tea. The propensity for risk-taking varies in any human population and only those who have the attitude to take risk and then the competence to manage the risk can be successful entrepreneurs.
