Sorry Malika, I differ a bit in this. En cashing in the established name, always, gives an edge over the Brand here with Bajaj. Whatever model be, Guys always identify it, first with Bajaj then with the Brand. So , associating the name gives better yield than isolating it. Do not you see it, Indian Congress is en cashing the Gandhi's name.

It is always Hamara Bajaj,the initial impetus came from Bajaj Boxer and Bajaj 100 c.c bikes which give mileage and smileage among millions of Rural users ,and the drive came from Pulsar,just like what Sccorpio in 4 wheeler segment to Mahindra scorpio,which later came too closer to the Brand Bajaj,this transformation has come surprisingly not from Rahul Bajaj,but his illustrious son.Any day Bajaj will be the usp just like what tata logo is for Tatagroup of companies,most credit goes to Ratan Tata to unleash the Brand value among his group companies,and tisco which took over u.k based steel company 4 times bigger in terms of production of steels and over night 4 or 6 th largest producer of steels and amalgamation of coffee and beverages Tata Teley is well known in business fraternity and TCS ,WAY BACK IN MID NINTEES created a record subscription for its public issue for Rs.800/- premium for a 1 Rupee share.

One of the basic tenets of branding is to create new brands at regular intervals. When a new product is launched, there is a temptation to give it a name that is already familiar to customers. One of the most glaring examples is GM's use of the brand Chevrolet on everything from hatchbacks to trucks. This leads to a concept called "confused positioning." Customers just don't know what a Chevrolet stands for. If the product succeeds (as in the case of Pulsar) you can always prefix it with the company name - Bajaj. If it fails, you can quietly drop it without a negative impact on the company image. Hence, Bajaj's use of the extension Pulsar is marketing practice at its best. Of course the name Bajaj is synonymous with reliability. The extension Pulsar stands out because of its zest and youthfulness.

definitely pulsar. but then we cannot have a complete control over the branding and promotional aspects of the product, for eg a company wants to promote a certain quality of the product but later you find that a different picture has been portrayed by the consumers,

The 'Definitely Male' bike always brings in mind the brand Bajaj but not vice-versa, the reason being, there are lot many bikes that Bajaj manufactures that has not been as successful as Pulsar. Times have changed and the golden period of Hamara Bajaj has paved way for the macho punchline of 'Definitely Male' which I think is a wise move to attract the larger chunk of the Indian population - The male youth. After all you need to attract the masses to increase your bottomline.

I agree with Ms.Malika that Obviously, pulsar will come first. Bajaj group of company has taken decision to dropped name bajaj from brand.yesterday,it was news in afaqs that bajaj will dropped.But, if u see other brand of bajaj like bajaj armond hair oil, bajaj allianze etc. people are speak whole name and first word bajaj will come. Bajaj brand itself and good image in market.

I think pulsar has made a strong impact in the minds of the people. Bajaj was previously known for scooters, even today people relate Bajaj to the scooters they manufactured whereas Pulsar has created its unique Brand identity and does not need the support of Bajaj in its name. People don't call it Bajaj Pulsar rather they like calling it just "PULSAR"
