I support banning of IPL because it has killed the real spirit of the popular sport and has become to support the black money. Commercializing the game is not a healthy sign for sportsman spirit. It is always doubtful whether the player are really honestly playing the game or fixing the matches and frechizies, which leads to corruption of higher order

I would be a happy man if this will happen. The benifit of this muticrore extravaganza for whom. Ordinary public are only interested in 40 overs of cricket, but just think/ imagine what is going on behind the scenes. Crores of rupees black or white flowing like any thing. Where this money is going. Really wanted to see all truth behind this. Till no body knows who are the exact owners and how much stake each owners have. See what happened to 20 - 20 world cup last year, God forbid wish it wont happen this year. If BCCI was so intrested in promoting the game why they didn't support ICL and banned ICL players in all sorts. Why the whole BCCI, govt are about to sack our great Lalit modi and why he is so adamant. Ban the IPL, give preference to 50-50 and test matches.

Dear Mr. Richhariya , You are right that ICL could not draw the crowds the way the IPL did. What was the reason ? Money ! ICL sponsors could not pump in money the way IPL did. The objective of ICL was to help second tier cricketers , not those who are already raking it in , in millions. So to talk of crowd pulling is not correct. All film makers don't make films with a view to the box office ; there will be some blockbusters which are not great films , but there will always be great films which may not be blockbusters. And , ideally , there should be a place for both. Unfortunately , with the ICL , this was not allowed to happen. I would prefer that cricket be funded and encouraged at the grass-root level ; not allow those who are millionaires , to become crorepatis. Ban the IPL , or at least change its emphasis so that it becomes more like the English county league. With a place for all levels of cricketers , not just the few international names.

Dear Mr. Richhariya , You might be right in a lot of things which you have written about. However , my idea of why ICL closed down was because the BCCI came down on the cricketers who took part in the ICL and threatened them with bans. If the BCCI had put its might behind the ICL like it has done with the IPL , the ICL might have flourished as a counterpoint to the IPL.

I think that the IPL has brought more money , more patronage and more appeal to a sport which did not lack any of these characteristics. In India , compared to cricket , all other sports have suffered , to the extent that some months back , the national hockey players had to go on a strike to get their legitimate payments. Contrast this to what players like Yuvraj or Sehwag make , even after their non-performance in this year's IPL. Even after having star performers like Ramanathan Krishnan , the Amritraj brothers , Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi , Indian tennis is non-existent , while countries like Croatia have world champions ! The country of Dhyan Chand is today at the bottom of the ladder in world hockey ! Under such circumstances , the IPL is not doing anything for promoting sport in this country. It is shameful that Mumbai Indians were willing to pay 2 million USD to get Pollard , when that same kind of money could have helped half a dozen cricket academies in our country. Whom are we fooling by saying that cricket benefits from this spectacle ? The greatest beneficiaries from IPL will be a few senior administrators of the franchise and all the hundreds who are not known to anyone except those same senior administrators. And of course the sponsors , for whom this is like any other business investment. A majority of the players who have played in the matches are established cricketers , who did not need the kind of exposure that the IPL provided them with. Out of the others , many who could not fare well , will probably just fade away. Test cricket , which was earlier the holy grail of most budding cricketers , no longer figures in their ambitions ; everyone wants to get into the IPL , because that's where the money is. IPL 2 gave 100,000 Rand every match to a deserving school in South Africa. What is IPL 3 doing ? Rs. 25,000 every match towards the fight against breast cancer ! Can we compare these two acts ? IPL 2 wanted to attract foreign viewership , while IPL 3 doesn't have to , since Indian crowds are fanatic enough about this sport.

Cricket is basically a timewasting game. as shaw or was it churchill said 13 fools pay a game and 13 million(+++) bloody fools watch it. all such games have to be either banned or played in-camera with results out only at tye end of the match IPL has degenerated into a money spinning web of commercial, fraud and deceit. definitely can be banned. Last year as the joke goes these BFs wanted to get the election postponed because of IPL could not be "postponed". what a joke.

Since IPL's inception it has been an open secret that Underworld's(Dawood's) money has been invested heavily in this much hyped IPL.But we Indians keep on sensationilzing such incidents. Why so?Because much of the stake is owned by Bollywood Heros whose accounts are hardly audited.Did we ever tried to find out why Shahrukh opened a production company? It was just to siphon off the black money from Gulf to India and later on to invest in such purposes. The whole thing is crystal clear. But this depends upon how much transparancy government is showing in making this scandal public.Lalit Modi has been a mean person seeing his records but a close associate of Sharad Power(president BCCI) and an NCP leader providing support to this Congress govt.We indians should wake up and see all such issues with eagle's view.

They registered IPL, LIKE A TRUST,AS THEY ARE PROMOTING INDIAN SPORTS ON WELFARE BASIS & AVAILING 100% TAX BENIFIT FROM GOVERNMENT against FORM 80G. As they are not doing SOCIAL SERVICE, This has to be corrected by bringing them under Indian COMPANY ACTS and collect INCOME TAX. That's sufficient.. Dont have to BAN..

Ban or not Ban is a good debate yet why do we only react. At best it can be seen as a reaction to controversies arisen. The money was there from beginning that this money should be better utilized is as well a truth yet, where was all the thought process when it was merrily filling coffers for a select few. Cricket suffered through this model can be as well extended to one day format and BCCI, thoroughly overdoing it. To begin with was it right to convert a sport into money spinning tool and overplaying with advertisement revenues to the extent of converting players into money making machines. In short what it reflects is we are at best sliding with tide and have no planning in place or serious thought process on long term perspectives.

Mr.Onkar Datt Sharma, the match fixing is associated with cricket since long, long before IPL was even thought of. Do you want to ban Cricket? Please look into your bargain once again.

Thank you, Mr Narayan for a candid opinion. Yes amendments are possible however can't be stopped. I'm sure you would agree that eight teams and 96 Indian players... earlier max 25 used to be known and monitored... I see it as opportunity to 71 second tier players and exposure to international level. ICL without money would have become like Indian Hockey. It was nice knowing your views that you do not favor ban.

Dear Mr. Narayan, I agree to your point of BCCI's might behind IPL and against ICL, however there is one more point that struck my mind is for two years ICL was happening but was not popular and could not create fan base despite of very good intentions, original idea (IPL came after ICL) and trustworthy name of Mr.Kapil Dev. Anyway, my questions to you are... - Do you really feel IPL should be banned?
- Is it possible to do it?
Please remember that IPL now has international fan following and can be organized anywhere in the world.

Mr.V.Srinivas, Nobody forces you to watch cricket or participate in cricket debates... You can be wiser by keeping yourself away from cricket and cricket would be benefited. Mr. Karthik & Mr. Natteraja have just noticed gambling in cricket with IPL, they probably have never heard of “Match Fixing” “Satta” on each match in any championship. Why only cricket… Formula 1, Chess championship, Golf, Soccer… you name a game or championship where there is no gambling! As per Mr. Kanukurthy; Mr. Shahrukh has played lead role in Chakde and must promote Hockey, Thank God he didn’t watch his movies with grey role… Dawood has probably visited Mr. Sharma to inform him that he is putting money in IPL and he won’t put his money elsewhere… Somebody said it “A wiser enemy is better than an ignorant friend” I partially agree to Mr. K. Narayan that other sports are suffering however disagree that it’s because of cricket. I also appreciate his point revealing the discrimination in donation after every match last year and now. However I want to add that there are so many academies for so many sports including cricket in India. They get money as well, however utility is a big question mark. Please compare ICL & IPL, both are same format cricket and tell me why ICL is closed? Plus what IPL did for young players, academies would have not done it in next twenty years even if they were given extra money. Indian hockey coach in past was raided and huge stock of balls and hockey sticks were found at his residence?

IPL has given the game a new identity. When any model is launched the success & failure are not known but IPL became a superhit. With every success some dirt always flows in but its we who need to see how to remain clean. Before cricket was evolved gambling was existent. Good & evil are two sides which will sustain throughout. With positive outlook we can see and create more goodness and the evil will automatically get low.

Hello Gajanan, I Cannot agree with you to ban IPL . We should be more positive and to sort out the issue which was created by somebody. Hope you will agree everyone enjoying the play, due to this many company's sponsoring, of course the problem bound to be their. As i have mentioned earlier IPL should come out with their records to public. To certain extent Minister and government should not interfere in decision making. Then it is cricket game along with business. K Rajagopalan.

Mr. Kiran many thanks for the refferal. Look every thing have positives and negatives. But we don't just kill the negatives as we can not do it. We try and make modifications in the negatives to make it positive. So if we have complaints against IPL than we can discuss and sort the things out. IPL is certainly not doing things which invite capital punishment of Banning. There are several other things which first be banned before IPL. If somebody is earning money thick and fast it is not that he is earning by only illegal means. Look by IPL the past cricketers not only of India but from many Test playing countries are being given acknowledgements. The infrastructure for cricket has improved. What else do you want. The facilities for budding cricketers are being improved. Because of IPL, BCCI is adopting other sports also. I think it is the step in the right direction. So this does not calls for Banning the IPl in any way.

I cannot see your point of view since I do not live in India but have been following the news as well as the IPL matches. I see IPL as a medium to give exposure to the talents of young cricketers and by playing with the experienced foreign and local players they will be able to improve on their skills. If was not for IPL as someone pointed out we would not have seen and know of such talented young cricketers. As it is currently India has the potential of picking at least 4 good T20 teams which no other country would be able to do. The only thing is I am hoping that the Caribbean boys will continue to play well for the West Indies team and don't get carried away with the lucrative payments they receive from the IPL. This was a concern expressed in a discussion with the Chairman of the Selector for the West Indies Cricket Board. Everything comes with a price....while the spectator will be watching exciting cricket.... the management of IPL will have to deal with the corrupt practices( if any) and whoever is found guilty will face the consequences.

dear Kiran, thanks for referral but sorry to oppose ur views!! look game as a game as if nothing is there in background.yes, certainly money is playing a very vital role in IPL.tell me where money is not THE criteria.every sport has money in it.if there are any irregularities then,Govt.will take onus of finding fault and booking culprits.let's enjoy some great moments in that sport.

Cannot ban IPL No matter, how the game is played, but having lots of political support and money invested one cannot ban IPL. May add many clauses or sections under our govt sections to generate revenue for the individuals. Is should not be started at first place. Once started it grows very fast due to lots of cricket lovers in out country.
