The Beauty contests degrades woman because it tends to portray women as materialistic objects. Appreciating beauty and respecting women is good but the way it is projected in the Miss World contest is wrong and unethical. For example, the questions that the contestants are asked are ridiculous and the answers that they give are equally ridiculous, not because they (contestants) are stupid but because they answer it that way if they want to win the contest. It is not clear to me how people regard all this as upliftment of women, and giving them equal status as men. I am sure 99% of the men (including me) who watch the contest, do so for their carnal pleasures, and not because of a desire to improve the condition to womankind in this world. There are several other ways to improve the condition and uplift the status of women in this world.

What we have in this so called "Beauty Pageant", are woman forced to follow the slippery path of self-degradation. A path I must add neither enlightens or rewards their inner properties. As a male, I feel ashamed and disgusted at the way we still view women. Not just in primitive displays such as this, but also in day to day life, from work, home, travel and social settings. This can not be allowed to continue.

Though beauty is God's blessings at the time of birth, it does not mean that,the beauty not to be shared to the praising people.We find kitchen garden compitition or flower compitition, it is like that only.

Women are to judge themselves and let us know how they react to a question like this .. we, the men have no objection if .....

We firmly believe that their perspective is verymuch necessary in matter like "Beauty Contest" where  ....

--- Physical beauty is measured 'inch-by-inch' and "In-camera" - telecasted off-line or on-line

--- where sponsors gather to 'augment' the so-called beauty of the constant ants well before ( called : grooming )

--- when these are necessarily an expensive affair - meaning a town/ city affair

--- often heard, to remain 'slim' candidates may not like to consume food as long as one year (?)- other women outside may be influenced which is very much harmful and anti-productive

--- the sponsors, to get back their invested money, extensively 'use' the winners through out one long year - after that they never look back

--- if studied in depth, the driving force of such contests are a "Consortium of Industries "  like :

The Media, the Press, the Cosmetics, different TV and Internet Channels, the Dress-design & Sell,  Cosmetic Surgeons and allied health care , The Hoteliers, The Showbiz people  etc. etc. ( all are revenue earners, and employers too )

... No competition is held ....

like  singing, no had-craft making, no cooking, beverage making, no reciatataion, no extempore speech and no quiz etc   .... "pure beauty" is measured ( ? )

I agree that in the name of beauty contest womes's anotomy is exposed. As long as they grill on General awareness is fine , but the other side of the coin is dark, and some parameters should be invoked for beauty contests, I dont mean ban them but make them meaningful

It depends on how one view it. The whole concept is not our culture. But beauty shows/fashion shows are on the increase. people fall for the money part of it. If one were to study it and try to understand the concept one will feel sick of it.

Bauty contest have swim wear rounds and make up rounds only

Braisn are not tested

All these women either enter cinema or politics and then marry a high ranking official or a very rich person

It justa way of getting material wanst fulfilled no more than a gimick

I partially agree, they degrade women. Beauty is nature and giving award for that is not fair. Contest should be conducted to show the talent but I don't think they show any talent in the beauty contest.

And the answer they give are not true and not from the heart. They prepare it and read it. So we should choose some other way to uplift womens....

I do not agree that because some men look at women in a carnal way , therefore beauty contests degrade women ; the men who look at women in a carnal way are the ones who are degrading themselves !

Women like Aishwarya Rai , Sushmita Sen , Lara Dutta are a benchmark for achievement ; the fact that they are women is incidental ; the fact that they are beautiful is totally irrelevant. Even if they had not been beautiful , they would still have been persons of importance and achievers in their own right.

The female nude body has been the most beautiful creation right from antiquity , and sculptors and painters of those ages have celebrated the female nude in their works of art. To say that because beauty pageants concentrate on the female body and ask stupid questions is the opinion of some people ; this does not automatically make it so.

Most beauty pageant winners , both in India and abroad , have had their lives changed dramatically because of their win , and in turn have done something with their popularity , as far as supporting good causes is concerned.

Hello Vinay, I may not agree with you. It depeds on individual to take part in beauty contest. Just for contesting you can not say womens are degraded. Hope you watch movie. There are also beauty is expolited. It depends how you see and take it. Today women is dominating in cinima, politics, business and education.
