Bing will now be buying news: Will this give Bing the upper hand interms of search?

In the past few weeks we have been hearing the news where, Rupert Murdoch and his officers at News Corp have been very vocal about their distaste for Google and their desire to lead other media companies in a boycott of sorts interms of revenue sharing money for the content.

And in that regard he wants other news sites across the world to join him. And in a way he is correct if he is asking money for the content which Google is giving in its search. And this has given Microsoft’s Bing a great platform to unsettle Google interms of search, as news is the largest content which will play its role interms of search. And there are reports that suggest that Microsoft is in fact in discussions with News Corp. and other publishers about the possibility of paying them to remove their sites from Google’s search index. This report comes on the heels of a meeting in Europe where Bing dangled the prospect of premium spots in search results to publishers and outright money for search R&D.

I think yes, if Rupert murdoch is able to convince all the leading news publishing sites to charge Google for its content, then yes, with Microsoft or Bing trying to buy news, and Microsoft is not afraid to buy search market share, which is what it’s doing with the Yahoo search deal and even its Cashback program. But with these latest talks, it is literally trying to buy the news, or at least exclusive access to the news. Bing can’t buy all the news, it can only buy certain brands. If Bing can somehow become the only place you can find news results and working links to the Wall Street Journal and other top papers such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and in India like the Times of India, ET, and other top news sites then that would be a big reason to switch for a lot of folks from Google to Bing.

Internet should be a free medium.There should not be any game over it.It should be less costly to the community as it has been till now.With this step a few section of people will benefited but most part of the profit will be shared by these giants.Therefore I think bing will not be benefited in long run also.

It will be really difficult for microsoft to own news the way it is saying and even if it does that it will simply be eroding its profit and there will be nothing but bing capturing a little share from google, and if microsoft goes ahead with this strategy, soon they will start to ask people money for the content which is now available for free, and i don't think that this will give Bing any upper hand.
