Twitter which completely changed the face of social networking with its micro-blogging, was way much simpler and only a year ago the conventional wisdom was that blogs were dead and microblogging would soon replace them. Twitter was supposed to kill blogs because it’s so much simpler to publish one sentence fragment at a time rather than whole thoughts bunched together into what is known in the trade as “paragraphs.”

But then today, blogs are doing fine, while Twitter is struggling with flattening growth, at least to its Website Twitter.com. But suddenly wordpress and Blogger has increased its number of unique visits in last month. The weakness Twitter has been experiencing in the U.S. since last summer is now finally hitting its worldwide visitor growth as well.

As a user which one would you prefer for expressing your thoughts, Blogging or Microblogging?

I would certainly go for blogging and would be much interested in expressing whole range of thoughts than just giving a opinion sort of thing which happens in Micro-blogging thing like twitter. Twitter was just an instant thing that striked the internet like lightning, and now after few years its starting to fade, though there are unique visits happening but its happening less, and according to comScore Twitter had 58.3 million unique visitors worldwide, down from 58.4 million in September. Meanwhile, Wordpress.com gained 10 million unique visitors to end the month at 151.8 million. And blogging sites are picking up world wide, blogs give something which is indepth. So I would go for blogging than Micro-blogging.

As far as Internet communities and society at large is concerned, Blogging and Micro-blogging have different usage and potential. I think, we must use the best of both the platforms.Blogging with original content and ideas is good in long term. Successful individual bloggers and companies are making good use of Twitter to spread the word.

Personally, I find Twitter to be more useful to share and use real time information. I do not have flair for writing long posts.

Blogging reflects the CREATIVITY, while Microblogging is not more than a 'BACK-SEAT-QUICKIE' or plain 'viral marketing gimmick'

Moreover, Microblogging essentially helps the already famous elite (or otherwise paid members buying several followers in quick time) who can market / publicize their words and deeds and forthcoming events.

this is something like a test match in cricket vs one dayer or as recently a one dayer vs 20-20.

i dont think a blog can be replaced by a microblog. twitter is growing enormously but it has not put an end to the already existing and newcoming blogging sites.

both have equal importance and are not replacable by each other. i blog and then i microblog about my blog. so in a way microblog is a complement to blog (but definitely not a supplement)

i will support micro blogging because it allows you  to send brief text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. it saves time, instant touched with ur frnds.
