No they shouldn't be. Because there is chance of taking revenge over their boss. Normally no employee likes their employer because they pressure them to do work. So judging a employer/boss performance through employees is not a good option.....

So its a NO from me !!!

I M Very sorry to interrupt, I am not agree with the view point of ms Suchi Smita coz in this modern era most of the employee are Practical you cant say it revenge you can say it professionalism . ya u r rt tht bosses use to put pressure on its sub-ordinate then it doesnt mean that sub-ordinate will give wrong feedback. in case of 1 or 2 sub-ordinate it may be true but in all cases it will not true according to me. What i wanted to convey that by Giving some parameter like(leadership style-democratic/autocratic), problem solving skill, clarity of message, co-operative, etc. one can give their feedback towards its bosses. through this even bosses can knw tht what exactly their junior want .and i think that it will be beneficial for both organization as well as for the Boss for further improvement. Therefore, I dont think that sub-ordinate will take revenge............

if u will talk abt this perspective then 1 can also say tht Bosses use to take revenge with its employee by giving worst feedback. I dont think that it will be a matter of Revenge. I am trying to say that this will be an effective way for performance appraisal following by the Growth record.

Its good to be evaluated by subordinates because this will help the manager to identify the short comings of his skill areas. The performance cannot be ascertained by that alone this should be combined with other reviews from peers and superior as well to give a better evaluation of what he is

Yes, but not on performance. Bosses could be evaluated on general competencies as well as attitude towards team memebrs.

360 degree appraisal could provide the solution

there is an anonymous voting system for all subordinates to point out their views of the boss and in this system they may also leave comments (on a small slip of paper) which at the end of the day are read out among a select team of management, during the presence of the boss this system brings ethical conduct of all bosses in any organization because of the simple fact that no human would like to be spoken of negatively or put to shame at the time of this periodical evaluation.

NOBODY can see their back. As such, EVERYBODY must be evaluated! Irrespective of their position!! Because PERFORMANCE of ALL must grow in line with their age and experience.  APPRAISAL, therefore, for ALL is a must!!!! Appraisal or evaluation is like a mirror of ones personality in another mind. If we take multiple-evaluation and filter and allow COMMON-FACTORS/OPINIONS to percolate to the bottom. And that is the ULTIMATE TRUTH?! I believe that everybody is a STUDENT, from birth till grave. There is no full-stop for learning things. A subordinate is inferior may be only in terms of Academic & Economic aspects. He may be VERY RICH in HUMANITIES qualities. He is our fellow human. There should be no EGO in learning LIFE-SKILLS from anybody that is useful to ones own life.

To my opinion it should rather be voting kind of system confidential offcourse. The included voters has to be from every concerned. This way the unfair means used by bosses  & pressurization to get their job done can best bbe controlled.

Yes Bosses must be evaluated by subordinates, but what do you get out of it can you hange him or his attitude at least. Many a time he is the Boss because he is the investor or owner or their relation or friend. In such cases what you will do? Evaluate the Boss, but if you cannot change him for good change yourself.

in most of the cases we use to see that bosses behavior are dominating or they evaluate their subordinate according to their likeness or dis likeness towards that individuals. according to me all the bosses should be evaluated through the confidential feedback of their junior and and what i feel that will be the best method of Performance appraisal wheather it is for TOP level or it is for Bottom level management.in all cases it will be fit.

Its very easy to evaluate and give opinions-this is one thing everyone offers free of cost. But when it comes to actual practice the real test begins. SO evaluating the bosses is not recommended. However the sentiment of the subordinates need to be known too bu there are other ways, getting the opinion from employees about the bosses but this is not evaluating the bosses but to make sure that the bosses are more responsive to the subordinates and are on correct path-this should be the aim of the management. Evaluating the bosses is not the correct way.

Evaluating the boss by his subordinates is not at all tenable.  One thing I could say that the subordinates working performance will definitely influence the performance of the boss.    A right person for a right job is always required and the boss has the responsibility to choose a right person for the right job.  But, it is not his sin, if he fails to find such a person

The bosses must not be evaluated by Sub ordinate. The organizational goal is cascaded down. A boss at any level is responsible for completion of the objectives by his team. In an organization the complete role is given by management to boss. The boss manges the subordnate to achieve the goal. Most of the subordinate is not happy with the boss. As the boss put a lot of pressure on subordinate to get the work done. This is the responsibility of the boss. The subordinate only can give the feedback of human nature of BOSS. If boss is liberal then the subordinate will give a good feedback while if he is little harsh for work, then the negative feedback is natural.

The evalaution must be done by the goals achieved given by the management. Unfortunately in most of the companies, there is no performance appraisal system. The finance, sales, purchase, production are the key operation for companies has invested a huge money to get it streamlined. But they never worry about the human resource. Most of the companies not have the visibility and goals to be achieved by the employees. So there is always problems created.

I don’t agree, because boss is superior among the team so he/she is the person who cares about the team members more over they are burden with responsibilities and in building strategic planning and so on, it doesn’t possess a good atmosphere, if team members took the responsibilities during the appraisal process, psycologically its effect the skipper and it affect the healthy atmosphere among the members...

No bosses must not be evaluated by subordinates becuse hiearchy must be maintained . If this would happen there will be war like situation and appraisal will not be done according to their eligibility. There will be support and against situation and no one will give their best.
