BP Plc said on Thursday it stopped the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico from its deep-sea well for the first time since it ruptured in April, prompting hope that the leak can be plugged for good. BP conducted a test in which it closed valves and vents on a tight-sealing containment cap installed atop its well earlier this week. BP said results early in the test showed the cap had completely contained the flow of oil.

President Barack Obama, who has seen his US public approval ratings drop as the crisis dragged on, called it a "positive sign" but noted that the latest effort was still in the testing phase. BP's huge oil spill has caused an economic and environmental disaster along the US Gulf Coast. The British energy giant's US shares initially jumped 10% on the news and posted strong gains for the day.

so users, do you think we should belive it?

I think we can believe it. It gave $ 12 billion compensation and an adverse publicity in business environment is what Obama ensured ....making BP work ! Their shares are steady the market looks good so they must have done the job.

The live video feed seems to confirm that their efforts have been successful.  Lets hope that stays the case till the relief well reaches the location and provides a permanent solution.

The ill-fate of Gulf spill puts the technologically developed nations' operation under question mark?.Whatsoever, the money & energy lose due to this spill, the environmental damage it made is quiet a bit irrecoverable. Particularly, when the whole world is concerned with environment & global warming. It is a fool-hardy system, both the giants failed to maintain an emergency plan, particularly, when operating off-shore.Just imagine, what will be the scenario when this kind of catastrophy occurs in underdeveloped nations / developing off-shore projects. We can say that it's share is up or the market is steady but one can not loose sight of reality.
