 Style of the Brand Name gives advantage to the brand. If brand name is identified with its utility  it can be more advantageous.

Even Matches  are getting branded today.  ITC started its own brand "AIM". And at any point of you the branded or unbranded doesnt makes any change in its usage earlier. 

But if you watch the matches currently "AIM" brand by ITC acquired maximum stake in the market.  They never manufacture a single match stick but the only brand name is pushing there sales.

When u make a brand u maintain the uniform quality, this is the first step to attract the customer towards him.

 Always brand name can be a asset to the company, ITC firstly acquired WIMCO brand in match sticks industry.  And killed that brand. Now WIMCO is only one of the manufacturer / Supplier for AIM matches.

a brand name that has been around for some time, and is seen as reputable, will generally develop customer loyalty. Consumers will purchase the brand name product because they trust the company. They know the quality is good, and they won't have trouble obtaining a refund or replacement if for some reason the product is damaged or otherwise unacceptable.

NAME OF A PRODUCT IDENTIFIED BY A BRAND NAME SHOULD BE SHORT AND CATCHY.TRADITIONALLY SUCH NAMES ARE WELL ACCEPTED & REMEMBERED BY THE CONSUMERS. SUCH PRODUCTS HAVE AVERY LONG PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE.

Yes I think it matters as of considering today's market scenario. A name is to be made in such a way as to catch on the first sight. Like the names like 9x whcih can easily capture people's attention.

But I don't think this style is going to work for everybody. There are brands which have their family name and are doing extremely well. If we look at RPG group its doing well and sometimes people look at products because it belongs to a particular group.
